So worth it to go in the morning when it's foggy (and not overrun by tourists). It's hauntingly ethereal.

I'm in Hanoi right now. It's so easy to backpack here. I just had a 3-course dinner for about $8. Everyone who you will likely encounter speaks enough English to do whatever you need to do.

That should only be for taxi/takeoff/landing. Once you're above 10,000 feet, you can turn on your phone in airplane mode.

Same game as this.

I usually just give the coupon to a homeless guy on the side of the road (I'm bound to see one either walking to my car or heading toward the freeway). I know there's a JitB near the 110/101 and one on 6th, so hopefully they can just head there.

I'm supporting your statement ... "unlimited" data is limited.

[–]daemon14 15 points16 points ago

Just saying, you can't say your savings are that much if you weren't going to get unlimited talk or highest data from AT&T.

I have 3 iPhones on a plan and our bill comes out to $64/month per phone since I get a business discount via my university. Very close to your $1478/phone over 2 years. We don't use as many minutes (as we have a crapton of rollover minutes) and I've only come close to 2GB on data a couple of months (since wi-fi is so prevalent around me).

It's shit like this, Miami fans.... by FuriousATGin nba

[–]daemon14 11 points12 points ago*

Case in point for LA ... Lakers-Heat in Dec 2009. Lakers down 5 with 20 seconds left, fans still stuck around. Kobe won it on that miraculous bank 3.

Edit: Went back and checked it out ... down 4 with 10 seconds left. Fish hit a 3, Wade hit a FT, Kobe 3. Game.

Hey r/travel, what credit card do you use while traveling? by godlesspaladinin travel

[–]daemon14 0 points1 point ago

The first thing is to get a card that has 0% foreign transaction fee. I use my Chase Sapphire Preferred abroad ... it doesn't have a chip but I've never had a problem using it in Europe. The only places you won't be able to use it are places like automated train kiosks and whatnot. It gets 2x points on travel & dining and I can transfer those points to United, British Airways, or Hyatt. It's $95/year (free first year) but I love the rewards program and have no problem paying that when my fee comes up in summer.

I have a Chase British Airways Visa that has a chip, but it's not chip-and-pin but chip-and-signature. Whatever, it still works abroad and has no foreign transaction fees. It has a $95 annual fee but right now has a 50,000 BA Avios bonus for signing up. My annual fee is coming up so I'll probably cancel it soon since I'm not interested in the card anymore ... I got the bonus last year, but get more BA points using my Chase Sapphire and have only kept this card as a backup.

Going to Easter Island. How many days to I need to cover the all the sites? by SFgirlinNYin travel

[–]daemon14 0 points1 point ago*

Six days is a lot, I spent 5 days in February when they had their annual festival and I was ready to go home on Day 4 (got there Sunday morning, left Friday afternoon, wanted to leave Thursday). You only need one full day to see most of the island by car/bike (the east and north shores, along with the quarry). Then maybe a half day to see the southern part (the big crater), and a half day to see the things on the western coast (the cave of 2 windows).

The town has a few things and the beach/bay area is nice but it can get pretty slow. I say having 3 full days is enough to see everything, so if you were to arrive on Sunday afternoon, leave Thursday afternoon. You can adjust for whatever dates you are looking at.
