What are some ridiculous science-related ridiculous misconceptions you've had the displeasure to observe? by oldspicerolldadicein AskReddit

I'm in too late so no-one will probably read this, but I was in pizza hut when a patron next to me asked if the buffalo wings were real buffalo. The guy working there replied with a straight face, 'no they're chicken'. I seemed to be the only person who found it amusing.

What did school teach you that was blatantly false once you researched it on the Internet? by peetssin AskReddit

is this true? I distinctly remember going to one of those science museums as a kid and playing with a gigantic tongue that would light up in different regions when you placed different food types on it.

Why would they spend so much money making an exhibit that's wrong?

What are your favorite online resources for learning web design? by theataraxianin web_design

[–]cosmicr 2 points3 points ago

contrary to what nearly everyone says, w3schools isn't that bad to learn from for a beginner. By the time you're good enough to understand why you shouldn't use w3schools, you won't need it anymore anyway.

basically I learnt by studying the source of simple pages, and googled the stuff the stumped me. I'm no expert by any means but it worked for me.

I also like tuts+(net and webdesign) which has heaps of interesting stuff.

Scumbag Plant by iaman00bin gaming

I remember the first time I saw this game. It was at a a friends house and his older brother was playing it. He'd already killed all the soldiers in the game so I didn't realise they existed. Because the corpses (like in this image) were so pixelated and I didn't know what they were, I thought they were little cars or something (the feet looked like wheels).

So for a long time before I ever got to see the game again I never understood what it was all about, and being 11 years old I didn't know anything about nazis or anything like that, so I just put it down to being some quirky game.
