I just watched Spirited Away. It was fucking incredible. by Dashing_Haberdasherin movies

[–]coral26 0 points1 point ago

Fellow fan here. I championed the votes for Spirited Away to be shown at my university hall, sat there at the end of the film all smug and happy, and turned around to irritated and annoyed hallmates who thought that it had been both a waste of their time and missing a more interesting ending. I was crushed.

Am I the only one who thinks scars are amazing? by beanzerzin AskReddit

[–]coral26 2 points3 points ago

Not at all. Scars are so interesting, and they'll usually have interesting stories to go with them! I don't have many, but mine remind me of distinct episodes in which I got them, and relationships I had with people at the time.

Similar, and cliche, but I'd prefer the time travel hourglass she uses. So many endless possibilities that Hermione didn't take advantage of.

Salvador Dali - Palladio's Corridor of Dramatic Surprise (1938) by beingandnothingnessin museum

Thank you for this, never seen it before. It's interesting to observe how much artists and architects have translated Palladio's work/writing in so many different ways.

Could I ask if you know what the murderer's family's reaction was? Did they show any remorse or apologise to your family in any way?

All landscape paintings 'happen' in the past for me. Why? by headchemin aesthetics

[–]coral26 5 points6 points ago

I get where you're coming from, and you're right, but they didn't 'happen'. Secondarmor has a point in that, on the most part, we can't take what we see from these paintings as reality. Italian Renaissance landscape painters even liked to create idyllic, non-existant pastoral landscapes (based on some classical text with a long title that I forgot the name of) in order to heighten things like religious messages. Much of what you see in landscape depictions of the past can't really be labelled as reality, but fantasy, as it's a person's translation and occasional manipulation in order to make more aesthetic compositions. We can't label them as snapshots.

So envision future landscapes all you want; it's just fantasy.

As for the aesthetic of time in the future, that will go into the debate on what aesthetics is, and if it is an innate understanding that is universally shared. If that's the case, then there's no reason for aesthetics to significantly change in the future.

What is the nicest/best thing a random stranger has done for you? by esettelin AskReddit

[–]coral26 1 point2 points ago

Back in '98 I lost both of my parents in a car accident that my whole family was involved in. Unfortunate swerve in trying to avoid a car led to our car rolling a fair few times, with everyone left in pretty poor condition afterwards. This was in a country with pretty much non-existent ambulance services, so it really was a difficult situation to have ended up in.

My dad's colleague was following some way behind, so was able to see us and help, but there wasn't enough space to fit all of us in his car to take us to the hospital. I wasn't conscious at the time, but I have since heard that the reason we all made it to a hospital from the site of the accident was because a random stranger pulled over and helped to drive us to the hospital. If it wasn't for this stranger, I could have lost much more than my parents that day, and I never even got to meet him or say thank you.
