Where do you draw the line between "good listener" and "free therapist" in dating? by richard_yeltserin AskReddit

Yeah, I've experienced one of those never-ending streams before. She ended up hitting me in the face.

Yeah, though eventually if your lady comes to you with her problems and you offer solutions, she'll start to think you don't think she's intelligent -- that she can't handle her own problems. When women talk about problems like that, they're not looking for solutions. This sounds a little ridiculous to men -- we think if you've got a problem, it looks like you're looking for a solution....but women talk about that stuff because they want you to know they're under some pressure, that they're special because they're dealing with this stuff and nobody takes the time out to realize who she is and all the bullshit she has to deal with in her life. As far as putting her "in her place" to control the situation, it make be better, after you just can't manage being sympathetic and not offering solutions any longer, to try to gently steer the conversation to more positive areas -- something that might be fun for you and her as a much needed vacation from all that bullshit.

If you play the role, they'll treat you appropriately. I'd recommend not giving advice. When women talk about their problems, just listen and be sympathetic ("Oh, man -- that sucks," etc).

College Liberal's inevitable future.... by mikerhoain AdviceAnimals

It usually happens like: this girl dates some superstoner dude for a while in college until it becomes painfully obvious he's not going anywhere in his life and he might be getting into coke and taking his freestyle rapping a little too seriously. They break up and she rebounds with a really nice, responsible guy. They live together, she cuts off the dreads....eventually they get married and have kids. She looks back shamefully on her pot-soaked college days and tries to keep her children from becoming anything like that.

For those married redditors, what was your wedding like? by JuniperGailin AskReddit

[–]collegeisascam 1 point2 points ago

Got married in my parent's backyard. Small guest list, good food, real cakes, good playlist. You've got to do what you and your fiance want - do not give in to any pressure from family. If you try to plan "the perfect wedding," it's going to suck. Try to have a nice time and remember that's it's just one day...followed by a lifetime of being married.

Country Vs. City by fetter44in AskReddit

That was very nice to read. I've lived in both types of areas and I prefer the country, too. There are nice cities, though. Northern Virginia is a festering, constipated shithole full of soulless idiots.

Why should I pirate? by Freshmaster_Din AskReddit

[–]collegeisascam 1 point2 points ago

Oh, it's stealing. Don't lie to yourself like all these other thieves. If this music was something you needed in order to stay alive and it was being kept from you, maybe stealing it would make sense. All these lame explanations for why it's not stealing or why it's okay are just justifications to keep stealing the product of someone's creative work.

They worship everything because their "Ultimate Reality" is everything, so anything that's a part of everything (which, of course, everything is) is a part of their "god" idea.

Atheists; Why should we be good to others? by Goosemelonin AskReddit

[–]collegeisascam 0 points1 point ago

The golden rule makes sense not because it's a reward system where people are supposed to be good to you because you're good to them, but because you are the same as them -- you are also a neighbor and you are also a friend.
