How many people are aware that men can get Breast Cancer too? by ChromeDeaglein AskReddit

[–]cleverascanbe 5 points6 points ago

This is so odd to see this on Reddit this morning. I was just screened via mammogram and ultrasound for breast cancer yesterday. I am a 29 year old male, that lifts weights and works out regularly, and struggles with carrying extra weight on my chest. About 8 weeks ago I found a small, dense, pea-size lump deep in the tissue on my left breast, next to the nipple. I have good insurance through my employer so I got an appointment with my PCP and he referred me onto the cancer group to go ahead and get it checked out. I was relieved yesterday morning when they found nothing out of the ordinary. It's most likely scar tissue from lifting and tearing a pectoral, or just a lumpy piece of adipose.

Men really need to check their breast tissue, testicles, and get their prostate checked very regularly, but the education on these issues for men is abysmal.

I hate consoles. They prevent innovation and cutting edge gaming, in favor of marketable reskins of garbage games with shitty graphics that can run on 7 year old hardware. I have a decent enough job to afford high end PC hardware, but only a tiny fraction of game titles are designed purely with PC hardware in mind. Ports to PC from console-centric games are killing what could be the most beautiful games the industry has ever seen. It's causing this bizarre 10-year-behind gaming experience, that will only just-barely catch up when the next generation of consoles are released, only to fall behind the curve in about 2 years time.

No, I think you have to connect to your online account to play them. So it might not be the best choice.

If you want it to look "cool" you could try making a Prezi.

A coworker I've been working with for over 8 months just called me by the wrong name. When has something as insignificant as that brought you down? by Neil_Armschlongin AskReddit

My name is Darren, and I have a co-worker who after 6 years still calls me Darrell all the time. It makes me irate to the point of wanting to burn the building down every. damn. time.

TSA agent spots gun parts hidden in 4-year-old's toy animals - CBS News by ethicalkingin politics

[–]cleverascanbe 2 points3 points ago

I'm not usually a conspiracy nut but this kind of reeks. The firearm in question is the worst kind you could even attempt to move through a security checkpoint, full metal frame, the magazine loaded and one central location is a giant black box on the xray machine for example. It seems like this is either a plant to test security like you say, or a plant to get some good PR out there for TSA right as it is coming under so much scrutiny from Rand Paul and the nation is going to start seriously discussing whether or not giving up our civil liberties for 12+ years of the TSA not finding shit, and strip searching our senior citizens and children, is really what we want to be as a country.

Are there any non-religious arguments against banning same-sex marriage? by PepSupChOthin AskReddit

Marriage historically existed as a property (the woman) transfer between one party (the father) to the other (the husband).

What does reddit think about allowing Oscar Pistorius, the man with spring loaded artificial legs, to compete in the 2012 Olympics as a sprinter? by JesusfromNebraskain AskReddit

[–]cleverascanbe 1 point2 points ago

Regardless of the outcome of this debate, pause a moment and realize that we are at a moment in human history in which for the first time the disabled can not only compete with the able-bodied, but can be accused of an unfair advantage. The prospect of what this means for future advancements to our own physiology through technology is both exciting, and terrifying.

Eating alone on a business trip. Black couple in front of me told 15 min wait for 2, yet they seat me immediately. Is this standard hostess behavior, or racism? by cleverascanbein AskReddit

Bravo! I always like to hear from those on that side of the dice. MySQL being bought up by Oracle a couple years ago really wasn't that surprising as quickly as it was picked up by the web crowd. In your work are there any features that the big enterprise costly solutions have that PostgreSQL doesn't offer yet that you really pine for? Also, we're strictly a Windows Server 2008 house so that drives some of our decision too.

Oracle or SQL Server? Not that I have a preference, it's mostly dictated by our coffers. I work at a University, so funding is always tight, and Oracle is mucho expensive.

Ha! Oops, was on my phone in the parking lot waiting for my ride. My mistake. There was nothing else notably different. Although, what does that say about me that I cannot readily describe this couple beyond middle-class blacks.

Also, my name is merely from an Oingo-Boingo song, not intended as a boast.

So one comment to rule them all:

I'm in Baltimore for a conference, I'm a 30yr old white male, dressed very casual (polo & jeans). The restaurant I was in was fairly busy with several people waiting. I overhear the hostess tell the couple in front of me that it was going to be about 15 minutes, yet they take me right in and seat me at a two top. The waiter didn't seem overly busy so he could have easily handled the couple.

I do like this comment that says there might have been more strategy involved, and hopefully not just racism. I was thinking about that while I was eating, because honestly, eating alone was balls awesome. I was served quickly, I didn't have to wait for an indecisive partner to pick an entree. Only had to wait for one meal to be prepared. Got my drinks crazy fast. It was amazing. Aaaand, I didn't have to think of things to talk about. I could just sit there, half-tired, silent, and get fed. Pro-tip: eat alone.
