Why did Christianity align itself with Judaism and not Islam? by circusnachosin exjew

[–]circusnachos[S] 0 points1 point ago

My Dad always said the best time in history for the Jews was under Islam. He said he could live with rules like "Don't build your houses as tall as ours."

It's my commentary on the dehumanization of the "enemy."

No, my issue is with the dehumanizing of the "enemy." Some people I know have been posting comments like "Until every enemy is vanquished." Yep, all our problems will be solved when all the brown people are dead.

Judging by my facebook feed, no, we celebrate Memorial Day to whip ourselves into a patriotic frenzy and share photos of "ghost soldiers" standing over their loved ones.

AMA request: Someone who has quit reddit. by MarioY19in IAmA

[–]circusnachos 0 points1 point ago

  1. I quit from January 2010 - October 2010

  2. I was married and my husband didn't like me talking to people on the internet.

  3. I had a lot of free time on my hands. I baked a lot. We adopted puppies. I also had no outlet to talk about personal problems or interact with people.

  4. I missed it a lot.

  5. I missed funny cat pictures and commentary on world news. I also missed the warm fuzzy group hug feeling that comes from 2 people on opposites sides of the globe realizing they struggle with the same issues.

Has anybody not been able to pay for a meal at a restaurant? What happened? by thankyouericin AskReddit

[–]circusnachos 3 points4 points ago

4 years ago, I had breakfast at a diner when all I had on me was my mom's Discover card. I was already 100 miles from home and 400 miles from my college. I offered to wash dishes, sweep, anything, but the hostess just told me not to worry about it.

I make a point of eating there whenever my travels take me that way, and I leave 100% tips on my meals.

My wife just mentioned, and I agree, that we think it should be legal for someone to be married to more than one person if it's consensual. Why shouldn't it? by FuzzyWuzin AskReddit

In terms of making medical decisions, how would this be different from a 70 year old woman with 4 kids, all legal adults, and no power of attorney? Who makes the decisions for Mom when she's in a coma? The oldest child? The one who lives closest?

I'm going to end up on a list for asking this, but why aren't Supreme Court judges assassinated more often? It seems like the most politically effective assassination you could make. by CitizenPremierin AskReddit

The muggers didn't know who he was; he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This here. I don't know what any of the current justices look like. Here I am, sitting with my internet box, not looking up what they look like. And yet even without the internet, I couldn't avoid knowing what Obama looks like, or Bush before him, or Clinton before him. Magazine covers, newspapers, on the news on the TV at my coffee shop, in the airport, on Chia pets. The president is high profile. The Supreme Court justices could come into my bar tonight and I would just think they were 7 (9?) random old people.

I know I'm late to the thread, but I have had hospitals close me up with stitches in some places, and medical grade super glue in others. My super glue scar is on my little pinkie, and it seems like it's better suited for small tears near the surface. I don't imagine you'd have much success trying to glue yourself back together after getting shot or stabbed.

[Weekly Discussion Thread] Scientists, what are the biggest misconceptions in your field? by fastparticlesin askscience

[–]circusnachos 2 points3 points ago

Can you elaborate on vaccinations? I'm getting to the age where everyone around me is starting to spawn, so I'm hearing both sides ... and by both sides, I mean people are violently defending their side with so much hyperbole that I'm thinking about just getting another puppy instead of a baby.

Reddit, what life skills have you learned that have helped you save money? by fatalhallin AskReddit

[–]circusnachos 4 points5 points ago

It's only a savings of $5 a week, but I stopped buying the fancy 12 grain bread I loved and started making my own. For the price of 2 bags of flour and a jar of yeast, I've got bread for over a month.

Are you wary of the opposite sex? What experiences led you to keep your guard up? by throwastevebuscemiin AskReddit

[–]circusnachos 14 points15 points ago

I should be more cautious of men, but I'm not.

I was raped twice (2 different men, years apart). A high school boyfriend stole $2000 from me, cheated on me when I wouldn't have sex with him, then blamed me and turned our friends against me for being upset with the cheating and dumping him. I was once kept locked in an apartment outside of Buffalo NY for several days with no clothing or phone in January - this was rapist #1. I was married briefly and left after being choked 4 times.

But I'm a hopeless romantic. I've been with my current boyfriend for almost a year now. He's so radically different from everyone else I've ever been with. I spent the first 6 months of our relationship expecting poor treatment and being surprised when it didn't happen. Finally I've started getting used to being treated with respect and kindness.

What is your favorite go to meal when you're feeling lazy? by LeonSanin AskReddit

[–]circusnachos 0 points1 point ago

Creamy chicken ramen noodles - drain out most of the water, only use half packet of seasoning.

Add can of tuna, handful of frozen peas, dollop of cream cheese.

Delicious and marginally more healthy than just plain ramen.

Reddit, i just spent a whole 3 minutes of my life watching a slinky on a treadmill. What are some things you've seen that entertained you more than they should have? by TheMellowestyellowin AskReddit

[–]circusnachos 8 points9 points ago

I have to believe that the end of the world will sound like that ... millions of people's iPhones, left all alone, screaming into the dust and the darkness until they run out of power.

I heard Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls On Parade" when I was little, and assumed that their pockets were full of sea shells. I still imagine that every time I hear the song. Reddit, what are some childhood misconceptions you can't seem to shake? by forcehereticin AskReddit

[–]circusnachos 0 points1 point ago

I only ever heard it at bars and clubs. So I never looked at the liner notes. I went to a Manson concert 13 years ago and singing about being a kitten just didn't seem outside the range of things he might do.

I'm totally talking out of my ass here. I'm making fun of myself for being a sheltered American with a pitiable grasp of world events, while at the same time mocking an impossible catastrophe that everyone in my age group seems to be obsessed with. If there were real zombies, I would almost certainly die.
