New DayZ Server. Atlanta 5 Hardcore! by coreyandtrevorlaheyin dayz

[–]chimpwithalimp 1 point2 points ago

I've heard conflicting reports about setting up a server. Do you need to get it approved by the makers of the mod? I've heard thats necessary so that people don't set up a local server, farm it for loot and then jump onto a normal server.

Did you follow an online guide?

Well, I guess the theory of it is that if you personally don't find any merit in a certain new topic, but it is about The Hobbit, then you ignore it or hide it.

On the other hand, if someone posts a new topic about a Ferrari they just bought, or their favourite dubstep band - anything completely off topic - you downvote that, as it contributes nothing.

What we don't want is for people to downvote Hobbit fan art because they think its poorly done, for example.

Quick question for the ladies. by kestaain ireland

I'm pretty sure you don't have to sign up, you just put in any selection of location in the dropdowns (eg south dublin), but yeah you'll be absolutely fine with whats available here.

Also, top tip before you arrive, Ireland isn't in the UK - careful with that one! People get touchy.

This is the subreddit for the Republic of Ireland, a totally different region to the UK.

Pretty much everything you get in the US will be available in Ireland, many of which will have the same name and branding.

Have a peek on this online grocery shop to see if there's anything you recognize.

The mods of /r/thehobbit have discussed this decision at length. We are also mindful of other subreddits which we subscribe to, that have degenerated into almost nothing but picture and meme submissions.

For now, we don't have that problem at all, but please be assured that if the day ever comes where memes outweigh every other kind of post and cause a significant issue for everyone, we will discuss and take the appropriate steps.

For now, lets work together to keep the community as positive and welcoming as it is now, and enjoy everything that people have to offer. As Alyeska2112 has said, if you don't like a particular submission, just ignore it.

Holy moley keep them coming.

Any chance of a photo of the original pen drawing like in this post?

The only reason I ask is because the prize requires a little proof that you were the one to draw it

Believe me, I sat staring at the 'purchase' button for ages. Rang the Mrs, chatted, weighed up pros and cons. Made a list on paper of what I could buy with that money that I might want more than a new PC.

The deciding factor is that the last time I bought myself a PC was five years ago and it is totally struggling. I still use winXP on this old machine, but I use it three hours a day I reckon. I play games, but the settings are set to low

If I weigh up the hours per day I'll use it even over a single year, it works out cheaper than expected.

Games, movies, browsing, ebook, photoshop, etc. A general purpose machine with the ability to play current gen games with the bells and whistles activated

I've ordered it around 5pm today and my main regret is not getting the Corsair SSD you recommended. Double the storage for $30 more or so

One for Christmas maybe :)

Thanks for all your help

I appreciate the help! For some reason I started to think that it was a one in a million chance that your hubby had accidentally used your account to give PC advice.

I've ordered the machine now so, a big thumbs up to you

I just want performance gain when I boot the OS, and if there is any wiggle room left over on the drive, perhaps for Photoshop to boot too

Weird question, but are you and TravellingHobbit married? She and I (and some others) run the /r/TheHobbit subreddit. If you just happened to spot my post in here, thats a weird coincidence

Hey, fancy seeing you here :)

My intention is to retain the 60gb SSD purely for the OS. Win7 says it needs 20gb to run 64bit well, but I intend to give it 30gb. If, after a while, the other 30gb isn't being used, I'll stuff Photoshop on there for quick loading times. Other than that, 100% of all other apps, storage and swap/temp files will be on the older HD I currently use, that I'll be putting into the machine.

Is a 60gb SSD drive for the OS really too small?!

[–]chimpwithalimp[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for that. I am going to cannibalise one or two parts from an older PC, including a 1TB HD, so that will be used for storage. SSD is intended just for OS and perhaps a game or two.
