I am Joss Whedon - AMA. by IAMAJossWhedonin IAmA

Hello Joss!

Graduating film school in about a month's time. What's the first thing I should do DAY ONE post-graduation?

I've asked this of two other screenwriters, and their advice was essentially to start drinking, move to LA, and find a therapist.

The thing that drives my goals in life is the idea that maybe, if I'm successful, I could help ease your struggles so far. If nothing else I just want you to find some peace. I know you're tired.

Too many memories attached to those songs to be bitter or cynical about them.

Pretty sure the Bible doesn't have any quotations from Jesus himself regarding homosexuality.

The #BelieveInSherlock movement is an organic flashmob that mimics the efforts of viral marketing campaign but is completely unconnected with any influence from the actual show runners.

It developed via Tumblr & Twitter on a worldwide scale a few days after series 2 ended in the UK. I believe it was technically inspired by some fan art that depicted the character of John Watson spray painting "Believe in Sherlock" around London. The fan art grew from there and then left the online world altogether, cropping up all over the place. Since the second season hasn't aired yet here, I won't quite explain what the symbolism of the posters mean.

I would consider it more of a "love letter" to the show runners. It's not just people at UNT, it really is worldwide.

Maybe I know too much about this. I'm not apart of this newest batch of fliers on campus, but a friend & I did put up a few in the union on the bulletin boards back in January.

It's just good nerdy fun.

Pretty good little film. Cumberbatch was a solid casting choice in my opinion.

I hear ya. Reading HP definitely helped my writing too, which ultimately shaped a lot of my schooling in general.

Sixth grade. My new friend told me to check out the HP series, something I'd been putting off for a while because "everyone" was reading it. However, she convinced me. Needless to say, upon finishing it I was hooked. Then I found out they were making a movie for it.

Watching that trailer for the first time with dial-up internet put a spark in me. I became addicted to the finding out everything I could about the movie making process. I wanted to know more about the director, the screenwriter, the difference between a producer and an executive producer.

I studied that film, my 12 year old self, trying to learn everything about it I could. It wasn't for a while that I was able to admit to myself that I wasn't just being a big nerd... I realized that this is what I wanted to do for a living: make movies. It was scary. I had the grades to do anything I wanted, something with less financial risk... But I couldn't fathom my future without film making in it.

Graduating film school in the spring. Maybe I'll fail, maybe I'll succeed. But... no regrets.

Thanks, Harry. Thank you, Rowling.

Reddit: My son is five, and he is begging me to 'do science.' Are there any cool (but inexpensive) experiments we could do at home that would blow his mind? by mcflyflyin AskReddit

I remember doing this as a kid. So fun. I kept those crystals for years. I'm not sure where, but I remember my family bought me a kit to "grow" different kinds. Yay science in a box!

I haven't been able to read for pleasure in years (...being an English minor and college student in general has a tendency of sucking some of the fun out of things). I got The Fault in Our Stars last night and I've already made a good dent in it. I guess this is less of a question and more of a Thank You, Sweet Jesus, Thank You. Feels good, man. Here's to the joy of reading.

What is the worst thing that you've ever seen a teacher do in class to a student? by DadandMomin AskReddit

[–]cameralinz 0 points1 point ago

I can't remember why, but I think the student was being a smartass. The teacher threw a water bottle at his head then came over, loomed over him, and then kicked his chair hard enough to tilt it backwards. The student fell hard onto the ground, smacking his head onto tile. It was insane. The student was okay, and I don't remember much if anything happening to the teacher.
