Rather than counting to three (since four always comes next and the counting continues), I've heard it's better to count down from three.

Few young kids have learned about negatives yet ;)

Crib mattress is made of hot lava, apparently by RatSandwichesin Mommit

Put her down before she's completely asleep. That way, she gets used to falling asleep in the crib and not your arms. It makes sleep training a lot easier.

You are welcome and embraced in my Reform Jewish Temple (we even do same sex marriage ceremonies, legally recognized or not!). We're having our first Pride sabbath services next month; I'll be there as a loving straight ally.

To Help Kids Process Emotions, Ask, “How Was That?” by sprgtimein raisingkids

[–]botticellilady 1 point2 points ago

As mother to a seven month old, I hope to take this approach often. My one question, though, is how do I go about helping my daughter identify such emotions in the first place (frustrating, fun, etc)?

Teacher refuses inhailer to asthmatic student. Mommies unite against bad teachers like this! (I am not affiliated with link) by TheCrimeBitchin Parenting

What the nurse did is horrific, if it is as they reported. And she should lose her job. Why, if your child is asthmatic, has prescribed inhalers, and has attacks, wouldn't you sign the darn form?

What are some slang terms from where you're from. by SCATTRONin AskReddit

[–]botticellilady 4 points5 points ago

In Texas, it is very common to hear the conversation:

"You want a Coke?"

"Yeah"

"What kind?"

"Dr Pepper"

We refer to all sodas as "Coke".

What is the saddest thing you've ever witnessed? by RastaMomin AskReddit

Listening to my 80 year old grandmother sob in the bathroom because her 40-something daughter (my aunt Theresa) had died that day from lung cancer after a three year battle. Fuck cigarettes.

My prom date (14 years ago) could recite all 50 in alphabetical order in less than a minute. He still didn't get lucky.

Mayim Bialik disappointing vaccination stance; no vaccines for her precious snowflakes. by Cbrantfordin Parenting

I said the same thing to my mother today. Do whatever you want to with parenting, but when you don't vaccinate and put my child in danger, I have a problem!

The wildlings never seemed too menacing or intimidating, then this guy shows up by dedbeatsin gameofthrones

Watching this episode (as a book reader) with my husband (a non-book reader) I just wanted to yell at him, "Do you see the man is wearing an entire skeleton? Why aren't you blown away by how absolutely awesome this costume is?!?"

As a good book reader, though, I held my tongue.

How much should I be available to my kids after they finish high school? by AlanInVancouverBCin Parenting

[–]botticellilady 0 points1 point ago

There was no judgement.

My parents paid all of nothing for my college funds. My husband and I have over $100K in debt for school loans alone. I try to do all I can to help prevent other people from having to experience the same thing.

How much should I be available to my kids after they finish high school? by AlanInVancouverBCin Parenting

[–]botticellilady 1 point2 points ago

I'm a high school teacher to all Seniors. I can tell you they're probably going to need you a lot longer than after they cross the stage.

Edit: $3000 a year for college is nothing, sorry to say. And that's now. Wait until they graduate and see how much it will cost yet still be ubiquitous.

President Obama nailed it on same-sex marriage and the separation of church and state today by mepperin lgbt

[–]botticellilady 0 points1 point ago

My Reform synagogue (in Texas, no less) has performed same sex marriages for a while, even if they're not recognized by the government.
