Please help. I have a weeping cherry tree who's bark is split at a bend, and at the base of the trunk. I just want to be sure it is ok, and any advice is appreciated. by bnartistin gardening

Thank you all for your advice. Here is a little background on the tree. It was purchased and put in early this spring, was 50% off because it was at garden center since last season (maybe the rope from root ball was hurting base). It is specially trained to twist back and forth the way it does (could that cause the split in first bend?). It is approximately 6' tall with maybe a 3" trunk width. I have not noticed any sap or sawdust on or around cracks. I know in the full picture you may notice the lower branches are a bit bare, this is caused by the local deer snacking on it. Any other questions or info needed please let me know, thanks again for your suggestions I LOVE reddit gardening!

This is a good idea, but I only planted this tree in the fall. It was noticed that it was like this not to long after planting. It was in a root ball for a season, was 50 % off b/c it was not sold in the prior season at the garden center. Maybe base was effected b/c it was tied up for so long?

Why is it so hard to find Jicama, and is this why I find this recipe to be one of my favorite things in the world?! by bnartistin recipes

east coast is harder to find it I guess. However, it is perfectly refreshing and crisp especially in this recipe. Sorry, can not help you with the radish either.

Going no where... by iwiwdthrowawayin needadvice

Sounds like you are in a rut, I go through this from time to time myself. For me, winter months tend to be the worst for this.

You never say what you went to school for, could this be something you look at as a passion, or something you could do for enjoyment, ie graphic design.
You say you have no hobbies, no interests in anything yet you tried to play guitar. Learning something new is not going to be easy, which is why it is so rewarding when you do get it. I say try something like that again.

Also, you complain about your weight and not having anything to do, why not utilize that time by exercising? Studies show exercise can help your mental state as well. Just start by going for walks or downloading some videos.

You seem to have a lot of respect for your parents and that is great, now apply that same respect to yourself. Get out there and live your life, don't waste it on the couch or in the basement.

You must have some motivation, you put up this post. Good luck with everything, don't give up on yourself you got this.

Neighbor gave me this banana plant in fall. I planted him in planter, and he died off. I do not want to disturb the babies that have sprouted, do I cut him down all the way or not? by bnartistin gardening

This is kind of what I gathered from all the responses. I figured I could trim off some of the dead stuff to see if anything healthy is left. If not I will still leave a bit so it supports the babies for now. As for the fruit, I do not believe it can fruit in my area because of the cold temperatures in the winter. Thanks a bunch for the advice.

Yeah not the case here, I have to bring them in from the cold. Thanks for the information never thought of them surviving off the larger one.

yes, he gave me a huge basket of cannas the our first year here. Now as they spread, I pass them to neighbors that ask about them. I also bring home plants in return for my giving neighbor. Have to say, got lucky with neighbors for sure.

I found this spearhead/knife on the banks of the Delaware River near Philadelphia. It is 3" x 1 7/8". Can anyone supply any info about it? by bnartistin Archaeology

Yes, we weren't sure if it was a finished piece or not either. On the one edge it has a small piece of geode crystals showing (can be seen on right edge of first picture). Also the roughness in the center (you can see on second picture) has some smaller holes where more crystals can been seen inside it as well. Not sure if the geode aspect would have anything to do with the age or not.

edit; thank you for the information and the link to the site, this helps me a lot.

Sliced red pepper is tasty. You can also try it on an English muffin with some tomatoes and cheese. This makes a nice little sandwich snack.
