Is this the Steam version? I'm surprised it's substantially different from the Windows version I've been playing.

I think your comment is fair and the downvotes you've received are bullshit.

[WSIG] Tsuro V Qwirkle by delangerin boardgames

[–]bluetshirt 1 point2 points ago

Disagree. Qwirkle is a fine game. People judge this game because of how simple/childish it looks. Don't. The best play is rarely the obvious one.

Fluxx has not worked for me as a gateway game. At all. I've had it backfire every time I've tried to use its appealing concept as a hook. It seems it tends to drag on and on and on at the worst times.

Went well, thanks! Learned some valuable lessons (e.g. Someone brought a game they'd never played before and suggested it to the whole group before we got into anything else, which really derailed momentum for a while) and had fun.

Really love Maura's art for Power Grid. Really, really love it.

Really don't love Maura's art for certain Dominion cards.

My friend and I finished painting Fortune and Glory. It's much easier to get into the game when the minis are more than just pieces of plastic. by bbr4nd0nin boardgames

Lots of different kinds of gamers. If I were to have a list of important parts of games I like, painted miniatures doesn't even register.

Is it fair to assume that most of the games you play are thematic?

Wasn't planning a particular game - was going to let the folks that show decide what they want to play, maybe with a bit of steering.

Come to think of it, traditional card games would lend themselves pretty well to dealing with people as they arrive, because they're usually played as a bunch of discrete hands and each is scored independently, so new people only have to wait until the next hand. Can't think of many designer games that play like that. Hmm... a niche in the market yet to be exploited, I guess.

Munchies that aren't greasy? I'm drawing a blank. Carrot sticks? What else is there?

Too bad I don't have a gaming console... oh wait, I do have an NES-compatible thing. Maybe that's worth setting up.

Bunch of music geeks are likely to show, so I'll solicit musical suggestions from guests.

One particular thing I could see being an issue is how to handle the slow, gradual arrival of people and minimize the amount of people standing around waiting for a game to start. (Once the night gets going full steam, I anticipate running at least two game tables.)
