Vanilla Bean Cookie Butter Cupcake by gkalaitzin DessertPorn

I read the recipe, and I still can't figure it out. What the hell is cookie butter? At first I thought it was a type of 'batter.'

Feminist vs. "For Equal Rights" by angrymurmursin TwoXChromosomes

[–]blackisthenewblack 0 points1 point ago

Well, depending on how they treat other men. If somebody treats men terribly, then no of course we don't want to be treated that way. And I can guess where you're going, about paying for dates and such, and I'll say that when it comes to situations like that, it's up to the people involved. If somebody wants to pay for a date, then I won't say no, but I'll want to get them back - maybe I'll pay for the next outing. We just want respect and to be treated like individual people, not according to some arbitrary standard of what a woman is or should be.

Perhaps because this is (I assume?) a rare occurrence for you. It happens often to many women, and can be demoralizing and frustrating. On a good day, it can be nice to receive a compliment on my looks, but to put it in context, society focuses so much on women's appearances that a well-meaning comment can just reinforce the idea that looks are the most important thing about a woman. Also, would you mind such a comment if the girl weren't attractive to you?

Here's the article I was talking about. A way I like to think of sexism, if the sexes were reversed would it make the situation any more acceptable or different?

Internalized misogyny is definitely an interesting topic. Often, the term "special snowflake" is used to describe these people (I used to be one of them!), who spout things like, "I'm not like other women, I'm one of the cool ones - I play video games, don't like shopping, don't wear make-up, etc." It's not that any of those things are bad, anybody is free to love video games or hate shopping, or whatever. It's when they put other women down that's the problem, implying that there's something wrong with liking shopping and all of the things that we inherently associate with femininity and womanhood. One of the things modern feminism supports is the right of a woman to live how she likes, even if she wants to be a housewife. I'm starting to go off-topic, but for further reading (if you don't mind putting your prejudices aside), this thread on SRSDiscussion talks about special snowflakes.

Ice Bra designed to fight the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe by SamiLMS1in TwoXChromosomes

I think the headline is a bit silly, as it fights the consequences of the catastrophe (less air-conditioning due to fewer reactors), not the catastrophe itself. However, this seems like a great idea.

The thing is, I don't want this to be a battle. I just want to voice my opinion, and I did. The OP heard what I had to say and addressed my opinion, things seem pretty peachy now. See, no battle.

Why should we care what the rest of reddit thinks? We don't owe them anything. I'm not going to stop voicing my opinions (especially when other people come into 2X with motives) just because I want the rest of reddit to "accept" us. I agree, part of a good image is treading carefully, but I don't think it applies here.

Sometimes it can be hard to see from within a relationship that your partner, whom you love, is being mean - you might blame it on yourself, having a bad day, or any number of outside factors. Regardless of sex, love can be blinding.

From what I've seen, it's definitely global. There was an article on here recently about Hillary Clinton, and the hook was about how she wasn't wearing much make-up. This is just the first example I could think of. If it were a male politician, no way they'd be focusing on something so trivial. You could argue that the article still treats her like a person, but still, it's not focusing on the real issue - how she is as a politician, rather than her looks. It's these little things, that once you start to notice, you can't help but see everywhere. One criticism of feminism is that we see misogyny everywhere, but it's there, whether we like it or not. And it's not just men who are misogynist, many women have internalized misogyny and don't even realize.

I hope I've made my point well, I can elaborate more if needed.

I guess you could have written it as though you were writing to a friend, it would probably be more convincing and less salesperson-y. But yeah, this wet shaving thing actually sounds intriguing, how much does it cost to get started and are there any guides here specifically for shaving legs, armpits, lady bits?

Just because you weren't weirded out by it doesn't mean everybody won't be. You don't speak for 2X, neither do I. Also, the fact that I thought it came off wrong doesn't automatically mean 2Xers are looking to make trouble. I just was saying how it sounded really off-putting to me.

Sorry to bust your balls, since you seem genuinely interested in having a conversation, but you have much to learn.

Firstly, feminism as a movement is not a monolith. Sure, some radical who legitimately hates men may call herself a feminist (FWIW these types are rarer than you think), but that doesn't mean I believe everything she does. Think of it like reddit: just because you identify as a redditor, do you believe everything other redditors do?

The "female brain"? Are you for real? We're not a different species. You say in your post how feminists detect misogyny where "it's harmless", but here it's not harmless. Implying that the female brain (and by extension, women) are mysterious and difficult to understand, this is a misogynistic thing to say. We are people, just like you, and we want to be treated that way. That's what feminism means to me, and I imagine most feminists would agree.

You seem genuinely confused, so I'll put in my two cents as a 2X user. The post came across like an ad - as if we were some target group you were marketing to. Wouldn't you be put off if somebody invited you to their subreddit in this way instead of just speaking about it to you like a normal person?

I was kind of forced into an open marriage. How do I deal with this? by BlueCanoeShoein TwoXChromosomes

[–]blackisthenewblack 1 point2 points ago

I'm not saying that it doesn't deserve attention. It's just not relevant to the thread. It's tangentially related, but if you really want to talk about it so badly, start your own thread about it. That's what threads are for.

Also, you can say what you want about the sex industry in Thailand, but unless you have sources, I (and other readers likely) will take it with a grain of salt, to put it lightly.

[–]blackisthenewblack 2 points3 points ago

On reddit, it's extremely common to denote sarcasm with '/s'. By backing yourself up, I mean citing sources.

When I say, "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MENZ??" I'm referring to a frustrating trend in 2X where men come in and expect us to accommodate them, despite this being a women's subreddit. There are men who respectfully comment, and then there are men who don't.

I'm not doubting the right of adult sex workers who consensually work to do so, but rather the idea that all sex workers are adult and consensual. If OP's husband is partaking in the industry, he should know what he's getting into.

As for derailment:

The biggest trafficking problems in Thailand are in the fishing industry with adult males treated in slavery conditions.

Props/s on derailing, especially seeing as you're not even bothering to back yourself up.

I've been dying to share my latest "everything went better than expected!" tale...ladies, what are some of yours? by jepensein TwoXChromosomes

[–]blackisthenewblack 1 point2 points ago

Great story! :)

I had a similar experience recently. Like you, I was super nervous, and when I told him I wanted to use the word 'love' through lots of tears and objectively ridiculous blubbering, he said, "I mean this in the nicest way," (OHGODOHGOD) "but you're a silly girl." This was right when he was dropping me off at home, so we left with a kiss.

A day or two later, the morning after sleeping over, he was like, "Hey <name>," "mmmhm?" "I love you." I returned the sentiment and many cuddles were had.

Former feminists: What's your story? What brought you to men's rights? by doch_dochin LadyMRAs

Since when is feminism taking rights away from men? I assume that's what you're implying.

You could take that logic and extend it to the men's rights movement, or any movement for that matter.
