That ain't it at all. I'm a bounty hunter.

Staring at the ceiling by discworldianin TwoXChromosomes

[–]bethanechol 1 point2 points ago

I think the sticking point here is the complete lack of participation described in the "lie back and let them have at it" scenario.

If seriously all you're going to do is lie there and stare at the ceiling and wait for it to be over, then definitely don't do it. But surely there are times when even though you wouldn't have chosen to for your own sake, you can participate and be intimate and enjoy it a little, because you want to make them happy. I don't mean faking, I just mean...

Here's an analogy: there are times when I don't really feel like hanging out and watching TV with my friend, but I do it because I don't feel adamantly against it and because she clearly wants to, and so I am nice to her and I end up having a little fun... (of course, if I did feel adamantly that I didn't want to hang out, I'd say no rather than show up and sit there, staring at the TV without talking). Surely you could have the same approach to sex that you would for any other kind favor that you might do for a person - if you don't hate the idea of doing it, you may as well participate as a way of doing something nice for this person you care about.

Anything going on in the Babylon Universe? by exatreidein babylon5

I think that was back in 99? I haven't checked but that's the vague memory I have.

EDIT: Massively wrong. 2150 is the year. I guess I was mixing up the nuclear wasting of a major U.S. city with Bill Clinton's Presidential Commission on the Future. Easy mistake...

Hahaha an excellent candidate, but I still say it's edged out by the wonderfully douchey "But I AM the chosen one."

A skeleton crawled out of my closet and asked me to attend his wedding. The skeleton is a multiply-convicted sex offender and child rapist. He's also my brother. What do I do? by Tase_Me_Broin AskReddit

[–]bethanechol 70 points71 points ago

I definitely spent the first sentence or two of this post thinking that in addition to all the other creepy things OP's brother's done, he actually did hide in the closet dressed as a skeleton to give the invitation. (Can you tell my brain is tired today?)

So see, OP, it could be worse...

Waiiiiit.... I definitely just confused "Fear Her" with "The Idiot's Lantern." Don't know why my brain does that. "Fear Her" is great, carry on.

Fear Her is your.... favorite episode? I could see some arguments for it not being as bad as everyone says, but... favorite? Better than all the others?? I'm intensely curious to hear why.

First Look At The Official Katniss Barbie by Darth-Sarahin Hungergames

...I don't want to live in this planet anymore.

It's fine as a collector's item but any girl young enough to play with barbies needs to wait like 10 years before reading/watching the Hunger Games. Hell I was 25 and I was still traumatized.

Anyone else sick of hearing that THG is a rip-off of Battle Royale? by LukesRightHandin Hungergames

[–]bethanechol 2 points3 points ago

I feel like the THG books were that gory and horrible, even though it was more implied than explicitly described (though some of the time it was actually terrifyingly explicitly described). Haven't had the chance to see the movie yet, but I've heard it's not as gory and traumatic as it should be - which actually makes me feel better about going to see it. If I had to experience visually all the emotions I experienced while reading the book, I think I would end up rocking back and forth in the fetal position for the rest of the evening.

Is anyone else annoyed with how Star Trek portrays love? by bucketsofrainin startrek

[–]bethanechol 0 points1 point ago

To be fair, those two characters are naive little boys (at least at the time periods you're talking about), so them being annoying is kind of the point. The pairings in DS9 and Voyager that are actually long-term pairings are much better, and Harry and Jake both have their little grow-up arcs.

Anyone else sick of hearing that THG is a rip-off of Battle Royale? by LukesRightHandin Hungergames

[–]bethanechol 29 points30 points ago

Yeah when I first heard of the premise, I was like, "Oh, hey, like Battle Royale." Which is really what convinced me to read it, because I love Battle Royale. But even if you accept the idea that the premise is the same, Hunger Games takes it so much farther - Battle Royale is basically like watching one year's Hunger Games as a Panem citizen. Hunger Games gives you all of the context of a world that would have those games, shows the dismantling of that world, and gives you the incredibly rich personal history of a really fantastic hero. So I argue that even if she did lift the idea straight from Battle Royale - doesn't matter, cause that's by far not the only reason why the books are so good.

Well typical friendzone situations usually only involve killing an orc or two. She's just special.

[–]bethanechol 135 points136 points ago

Which is really the perfect ending to a friendzone story. Get friendzoned by one guy who seems perfect --> be really emo --> meet a different guy who's actually perfect for you and is into you --> realize first guy was right, you were meant to just be friends with him after all.
