I have this and it is really hard to explain but I feel the colors rather than actually see them. It's like I get the sensation that I'm seeing a color but it's not actually visible. Sorry if this is a shitty explanation but it is really hard to describe.

Go down to your local bike shop and they will probably have something like this they are cheap and work well, I don't trust the velcro type ones that you linked to, I'm sure they are safe but I don't like them. Some of the more serious fixed gear riders I know use clipless pedals but those are expensive and require special shoes. Edit: As recipe_for_confusion pointed out They are in fact called clip less pedals

I have used them for surfing and plan on using it on my bike the next time I go for a group ride with friends, I would recommend them.
