Some good classic comic books or a graphic novel. Some sports equipment if he's into that (decent junior league football/soccer ball ,etc.), or some fairly challenging Erector Set-type puzzle.

Or if you have the space to do it (a field on private property), get a model rocket kit, build it together, and go fire it off. You handle the engine, set it up, and let him push the button to launch it. I loved this as a kid.

I'm a Mech-E, work on aerospace hardware, and I have no words right now. The next days are going to lay out the next 30 years of aerospace technology, enthusiasm, and the generations to come of those who will do what we only dreamed of.

I played hockey from age 3 to 19, some years playing on two teams at the same time. It's fair to say that where I grew up, hockey was The Sport. Being the first in my family to play, I didn't have my dad or an uncle to inherit an NHL allegiance from. During the 1993-1994 season (I was 8), I was asked to play backup goalie. I was pretty good, but not great. Since I got to have my own water bottle to sit on the net, I picked one with a Devil's logo. I started watching more NHL games that season (Hockey Night in Canada of course), and started to follow Devils games, and idolize Brodeur, going all the way to Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Rooting for them all the following year, and watching the first Stanley Cup Finals that I can remember, I was hooked.

I didn't play goalie that year, or any after, but I've got to watch Brodeur every year since. Not to mention Scott Stevens playing defense like a fucking boss (my default position).

Well I'm pretty sure the standard procedure for docking requires the crew to stay in an escape capsule section until a hard seal dock.

I love shoveling snow when I go up to my parent's house (NY/ONT boarder). Especially at night, when you stop for a few seconds and it's so calm and quiet, with a gentle snowfall of big flakes, lit up by the soft yellow/orange street lights. The air smells so clean, and the snowflakes fall and melt on your nose and cheeks.

I felt so cheated this past winter :(
