In 100 years, if the entire population of the US were to be judged as a reflection of the policy enacted – yes, we'll probably be judged poorly. But I don't think you can compare the individuals living in a country to the individuals who enforce the policy. Enforcing is acceptance.

If you disagree with something, don't be a part of it. People fled and refused to fight – many of whom were killed as a result. But each soldier made a decision to put on that uniform. Maybe some didn't or couldn't comprehend what exactly they were a part of (e.g. concentration camps), but they were all aware, as it was part of their job, to enforce the persecution and segregation of the "undesirables".

I have difficulty understanding how someone could participate in a government like that. Evil isn't the right word for those soldiers. Even if they weren't all racist scumbags, they were all extremely weak minded, illogical, and complacent – knowingly supporting a racist agenda. Yes, we're all humans – he was a father and had a family. It's unfortunate that they couldn't see that too...
