How old is the laptop? I had the same one and this happened frequently as it got to be around 2 years old. Don't really have an answer for you though, sorry. :( When this would happen I would soft-reset it and that usually worked.

Ohh, you sound just like me! To the T! I just mainly make friends with guys. I'm not a knockout or anything like that so I usually don't feel like a piece of meat to ogle when I'm around them, either. When I do make friends with girls, they're also tomboyish.

Last semester, I lived in a dorm on a floor full of sorority girls. Now, not all sorority girls are as the stereotype might suggest, but most of these girls were just that. I was nice to them, and tried to get to know them a bit, but after a while I just recognized that we were different people and while I could appreciate their differences and what they had to offer the world, friendship was not likely and I was okay with that.

Wow, what a beautiful photo! I'm starting to think I should just stay out of that lighting...I have taken pics of friends' cats that are much sharper and in slightly better lighting, such as this one: http://imgur.com/3nJ7J,8zWEQ but I hadn't attributed the sharpness to what you suggested...so now I know!

I'm aware that this isn't that great, either, but I'm glad I've been able to get that sharp photo! I'll keep in mind what you said.

I see - this helps a lot. I'm kind of kicking myself for ignoring the flash right now! haha. So it sounds like I need to learn how to balance the settings on my camera more. I'm going to take a few more photos tonight in the same lighting and place and try out what you suggested - thank you so much!

Only one additional question: Do you think that the composition of these images is okay? I've really been trying to work on that lately and you seem to know what you're talking about.

Shot with Canon 450D, Canon 50mm 1.8 lens, aperture was 1.8-2.4 depending on the picture, 1600 ISO (Awful lighting in my house), all but the black and white were cropped a bit, shot in RAW and color corrected a little, I used AV mode.

My question is this: Why aren't these photos that clear? I focused exactly in the right spots and the camera was very steady. I suppose I could have used my remote in retrospect, though. These just don't look professional. Is there some post-processing I need to do beyond this? Are these just mediocre shots?

I'd appreciate any advice. :) Thank you! (I am a bit of a newbie at this still.)

When I was a freshman in college, I developed an obsession with photography. So, I decided to save up the money I made working at my job to buy myself a nice DSLR. I kept it a secret from my mom, as she had always wanted one herself, and decided that when I went home for the summer I would offer to share it with her. I thought it would be a neat activity for us to do, since we've never been exceptionally close.

When I came home for summer break and showed her the camera, she acted very quiet and sad. I was legitimately worried that I had really disappointed her by saving up for and buying a $400 camera.

That didn't last long.

For at least once a week that summer, I had to endure a screaming fit from her about how I was a "wannabe rich kid" who was incredibly "selfish and only thought about myself". How dare I spend so much money when she had been planning a family vacation that summer and might have needed help from me. (Thanks for letting me know that 2 weeks in advance, Mom.)

These outbursts continued for almost a year until strangely, my dad bought her a similar camera. Now she wants to take pictures with me and start her own photography business. And while I'm no Ansel Adams......she kind of sucks. So yeah.
