Picked up a new Peterson and an estate Kaywoodie this past weekend. by HEXAEMERONin PipeTobacco

[–]avart10 0 points1 point ago

You like the P-lip? I have one of those, and I find it builds up moisture just by the "bend" where the stem ends and the lip begins, which leads to me having to "flick" the pipe several times during the smoke not to get pipe juice in my mouth.

GNU/Linux on my new SSD, general help? by AKnashin linuxquestions

If you're not going to keep your logs, why have them in the first place? Just disable syslog and be done with it!

I'm interested in trying out a tiling window manager, which is the most newbie friendly in terms of setup and configuration? by MrPopinjayin linux4noobs

[–]avart10 1 point2 points ago

I'd say that [scrot, spectr]wm is the tiling window manager that is the easiest to configure that I've encountered. The config file is very well documented and intuitive. Maybe you pressed the wrong modkey for the keybindings?

If it doesn't float your boat, maybe the combination of Openbox and Pytyle2 would suit you better? Pytyle2 is also really straightforward, but I've had some problems with memory leaks.

You're absolutely right! It's Chanel Pout Monsieur I'm thinking about! Sorry.

Looking for a lemony fragrance... by phantom_pooin fragrance

[–]avart10 0 points1 point ago

Chanel pour Homme is a lovely citrus chypre. The opening is very lemon-y, and then the moss and woods come in. It's not very "clean" though.

Maybe some good eau de cologne? EdCs are basically all about lemon! 4711 is very lemony and cheap as they come. Or Guerlain EdC Imperiale, the bergamot/lemon thing is very tart and fresh in that one?

The caption is correct, even if I would have x:ed the "very".

The question, however is why on earh you chose to post this in /r/WTF instead of /r/girlsontalkshows or whatever.

Inhaling by Qp1029384756in PipeTobacco

[–]avart10 0 points1 point ago

Yes.

I'm trying hard not to be a cigarette smoker, but whenever I've had a stressful time, I really feel the urge to smoke cigs, and to combat that urge I inhale. Not every puff, but once in a while just to get the craving to go away.

How do you carry around your pipe and tools? by Lilyanchin PipeTobacco

[–]avart10 0 points1 point ago

I'm so sorry that you have to use RATOS pipe cleaners. I mean, the bristled ones are ok for getting junk out of a tenon and stuff like that, but the regular ones just don't soak up enough moisture! Whenever I'm reduced to having to use RATOS cleaners, I need about ten of them to get my pipe clean after one smoke!

Någon som har koll på vad som är grejen med dessa skyltar? Sitter mellan Uppsala och Arlanda by Perforexin sweden

[–]avart10 0 points1 point ago

DWM vs. Xmonad - Your preference by naleagin archlinux

[–]avart10 1 point2 points ago

I really like spectrwm because of the baraction.sh - it feels much easier and UNIX:y to use simple system tools and bash builtins to configure your status bar, rather than having to wade through the documentation of an entire lib in an unfamiliar language to configure your status bar.

However, I'm having problems with notifications and windows popping up where I didn't expect them to, so I might go back to xmonad when I feel I have the time.

Request for guidance: Want to set up a dummy web server, where do I start? by wanderederer1in linux4noobs

[–]avart10 2 points3 points ago

To make it a web server, just install Apache on it. Your webroot is, by default, /var/www i think. Not sure what you mean about the "dummy" part though.

If you want to talk to the server with your netbook, just look up SSH.

Looking for a new word processor. Not {Libre,Open} Office. by birdbirdbirdbirdin linux4noobs

[–]avart10 1 point2 points ago

For writing, Scrivener is unparalleled, but it doesn't really do word processing in the sense of layouts and the like.

Opinions on this watch? by HoneyJDin malefashionadvice

[–]avart10 1 point2 points ago

I'd really not knock this off for being a "crap Quarz watch". Bulova, as a brand, were pioneers of the electric watch movement ehm... movement.

Even if this is a rather anonymous-looking piece, the tuning fork actually means something, and is rather honest about what powers the watch. If I were to get a Bulova though, I'd rather watch Ebay for the funkier 60's or 70's Accutrons. And an original Astronaut is a wet dream of mine.

Peterson's "Kildare". My favourite pipe I own. by Pmagruder93in PipeTobacco

I'd say that's a Lovat. If the shank is shorter, it'd be a saddle-stem billiard I guess.

I Hate These People So Much... by Clutch70in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

There's also the privacy aspect of it. Traffic sent through an unencrypted wireless network is open for everybody, making network sniffing, nasty MiTM attacks, password fishing and so on too easy.

I am Joss Whedon - AMA. by IAMAJossWhedonin IAmA

[–]avart10 1 point2 points ago*

Hi Joss, huge fan! Thanks for being such an awesome feminist and writer.

I've been thinking about something. Buffy and Angel sort of met each other half-way timewise on the camp-spectrum, i'm thinking if that was a conscious decision or just something that kind of happened?

Where Buffy started out really camp and witty and silly, it was really serious by the end. Angel started out pretty gloomy, but was a feast of silly and wonderful one-offs by the (all too abrupt) end. Did you have a gloomy and grand story arc planned for the end of mope-master Angel, or did you want it to continue in the manner of the last season?
