Anybody who is actually paying attention should be mad. It's a shame they aren't.
It's sad that people don't recognize passion any more; passion for wanting to do the right thing, or standing up for a principal, as opposed to being told what is "politically-correct" and lining up behind a bunch of other lemmings making golf claps while looking around to see if it's ok.
I don't mind being on the side of a big amorphous blob of people like you who take the easy way out. You can make fun of me because I don't tow the party line. You can even imply I'm wrong, but that doesn't make it true.
There is no honor in glorifying people who whether it's their choice or their duty, are ultimately oppressing other innocent people so the rich can get richer.

I'm simply stating the obvious: an occupying force has their own version of what's going on, that is entirely different than what the indigenous people view is going on. Look at our view of the American West verses what the Native Americans' think? But we still worship the "heroic nature" of the early settlers and cowboys. The people that were there first have an entirely different story.
We both know it.

Observation of what? cleaning dust out of your weapon or escorting some contractor someplace? You think you have a handle on what the local populace wants or thinks? That's about as accurate as some middle-aged white couple stepping off a cruise ship in Montego Bay claiming they understand the nature of the Jamaican people. Yea you met a few and they 'seemed nice' while they tried to sell you a t-shirt that said, "Yea Mon!" on it.

Which side takes one old news clip, out of context and runs it over and over to make it seem like it's common place when it isn't?
[–]argeaux 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago
So does the other side.
I didn't say just the locals, but there is definitely a contingent of locals, and the reality of the matter is, the "taliban/alquaida" wouldn't have as easy a time recruiting members if they didn't have plenty of non-religious reasons to defend their city against occupying forces.
The way the media calls everyone they kill "taliban" is a strawman, or every village they bomb, "a taliban stronghold."
adults are too smart to get their legs blown off for corporate profits
politesse is the worst explanation for being silent... every atrocity that has ever been committed has been witnessed by people making your same argument, who did nothing and let it happen.
As just so you know, a minority of soldiers and high-paid corporate contractors in Afghanistan actually do good things on occasion such as rebuilding shit they destroyed in the first place
FTFY
I don't sympathise with someone who fell for propaganda, it is their own responsibility to seek the truth.
Exactly, you can't claim ignorance as a defense against evil.

The Taliban kill indiscriminately
Every side always says the other side "kills indiscriminately" and has no respect for civilians. It's a standard element of war propaganda. It's also rarely accurate.
Furthermore, the 'taliban' is basically a strawman argument. Right now as it was in Iraq, most of the invading force are fighting the local populace who simply want the occupying force out of their homeland. Calling them "taliban" is a convenient way to whitewash the fact that they're humans too, trying to defend their own liberties and way of life. I'm not apologizing for any one side in the conflict. I'm just saying there are two sides to every story, and you can bet if any other country invaded ours, we'd fight back and try to repel them as well. The people in the middle east have been doing this for centuries before America even existed, before there was a "taliban."

None of those people were actually "fighting for our country." Unless by "our country" you mean: Exxon, Shell, Halliburton, KBR, General Electric and Bechtel. There is no defense of America going on in Afghanistan.

Random fact: none of those people were actually fighting for our country. Unless by "our country" you mean: Exxon, Shell, Halliburton, KBR, General Electric and Bechtel.
