So This Happened: "KONY 2012" Spraypainted onto a Memorial from 1889 for the Victims of the Boston Massacre by Gemini6Icein boston

[–]antim0ny -3 points-2 points ago

The group behind the campaign is Invisible Children.

Despite what many people on reddit believe, it is a legitimate foundation which has programs on the ground in Northern Uganda, which are aimed at stopping the Lord's Resistance Army:

However, all anyone sees is the Kony2012 campaign, which is, I agree, annoying.

My roommate thinks it is hilarious that I have a special pajama outfit for my 'time of the month', does TwoX find it as amusing? by fionacoyin TwoXChromosomes

From wikipedia:

In Norse mythology, Ragnarök — typically spelled Ragnarǫk in the handwritten scripts — is a series of future events, including a great battle foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major figures (including the gods Odin, Thor, Týr, Freyr, Heimdallr, and Loki), the occurrence of various natural disasters, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water. Afterward, the world will resurface anew and fertile

So appropriate.

Any Chemical or Environmental Engineering rising Seniors (current Juniors) looking for an internship, in Boston? (Also: Congrats RPI on the college reddit-of-the-day!) by antim0nyin RPI

Any application will be considered, but a current Junior / rising Senior would be able to start in 2013.

Walking and foot advice needed. by UsernameUnknownin xxfitness

[–]antim0ny 0 points1 point ago

Just want to say that I developed planar fascitis from walking in vibram soles. I followed the training guides, even using an app, but the recommendations on proper gait (toe-heel, short stride) relate to running, and do not work out well when you are walking.

It didn't happen all of a sudden, it took a while to set in, but whenever I try on those vibrams I can feel exactly how they were messing up my feet.

Vibrams are great if you want to be super vigilant about your technique, while running. In my opinion, not good for walking, especially not distances.

TSA to Outlaw Hand Holding at Airports??? by zarroin OperationGrabAss

[–]antim0ny 12 points13 points ago

Nothing about hand-holding in there. But there's still a little tidbit that I'd like to show my appreciation for here:

"As always, TSA will continue to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the security process. "

That's very funny. By declaring that their strategy is to be erratic, "to keep the enemy on their toes!", they excuse all the undisciplined and nonsensical crap that they do.

Who was the fucking marketing genius who came up with that one.

Watch out for those new fake corks though, some of them can be pretty cork-looking.

Weird Al sues his label for $5 million in unpaid royalties by Jonovoxin Music

[–]antim0ny -1 points0 points ago

no penalty for not paying.

No penalty for not paying?

Legal fees, whatever else they throw into the claim in the lawsuit, plus another ding to the Sony brand and reputation = substantial penalty for not paying.

I must say, the part of the suit relating to Sony's YouTube deal is pretty interesting though...

What does the Chinese character on this baseball cap say (in English)? by antim0nyin AskReddit

[–]antim0ny[S] 0 points1 point ago

It may be the closest approximation you can make to the NY Yankees NY logo using Chinese characters. If so, it would make sense that it's some nonsense phrase - something obscure or not usually put together as a phrase...

I have heard and read the word unique being used with an intensifier, and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Something is unique, or it is not unique. Something can't be very unique, or quite, or sort of unique.

Who is the kindest stranger you've ever met? by PatrickAnimiin AskReddit

[–]antim0ny 0 points1 point ago

My Mom always went out of her way to be nice to the people in the neighborhood, particularly older people, even though we lived in a big city and most people didn't bother to get to know their neighbors much at all - at least not in an everyday way. I really wish I could be more like her but I am too wrapped up in my own work and nonsense, and never seem to find the time.

Thanks for posting this and reminding me to be a better neighbor!

Platypuses are venomous, so he looks cute but a bite from that animal actually can cause a bit of damage.

I showed up at 6:20 and there happened to be a frisbee game going on the west side of the bandstand but it's not redditors.

No frisbee for me tonight. Maybe try again soon

Neil deGrasse Tyson, "We Stopped Dreaming" by fatguydrunkmanin technology

[–]antim0ny 0 points1 point ago

OK - that is an interesting perspective.

To me, seeking to support our own life on another planet that does not have an atmosphere conducive to our lifeform and the ecology that we are dependent upon would seem less viable than trying to do so on Earth in the far future, even Earth after an X-ray burst or a supervolcanic eruption.
