Has anybody else ever had that moment when everything just "clicked"? by FruityGordoin AskReddit

Thank you, I needed to hear that from somewhere other than my brain. Been struggling with this a lot lately, but I'm coming around.

Reddit, what are some of your most unreasonable pet peeves? by DSice16in AskReddit

[–]andre_bass 1 point2 points ago

Oh god, my boss made me spend money on anti-virus software (when we could have used free stuff) because he's so concerned about security, yet he refuses to use anything but IE. I explain that he's contradicting himself, but alas, "Chrome just doesn't work the same....and all my bookmarks are in here." "I can import those over for you." ".....No."

Are you fucking serious?

Redditors diagnosed with HIV AIDS, what was your first reaction when you found out? And how are you living day to day knowing you have it? by Stasia91in AskReddit

[–]andre_bass 1 point2 points ago

This was very true when my hair loss became obvious. I poked fun at my baldness for laughs with friends, but deep down I hated myself.

Even if the guy jokes about it openly, I wouldn't try making a joke back. I could make fun of my baldness all day but as soon as my best friend took a jab my day was ruined.

Just a comparison, hopefully 'when it's my time it's my time, I don't have any regrets' truly reflects how he feels.

Broke up with girlfriend, she says I need to pay for certain things... Do/Should I? by andre_bassin relationshipadvice

[–]andre_bass[S] 0 points1 point ago

No, it was just unfortunate timing and I had no idea she would be getting me something so awesome. I've decided to pay her eventually, but at the moment my cash needs to be used on Living expenses (just moved and she knows this).

I work for her father (not an issue), so even if we don't speak she's always within reach, she'll remind me to pay her I'm sure :p

BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED!!!

Reddit, what's the most obscure/stupid thing you've ever lost a close friend over? by Madiyashain AskReddit

[–]andre_bass 0 points1 point ago

tl;dr -- Dude I was best friends with from 16-20 would get super pissed off over Dance Dance Revolution, make a complete fool of himself, was a huge fucking brat, and all of his friends followed me in abandoning him a few years after I did.

I used to be really into Dance Dance Revolution in my later teen years (traveled to enter tournaments and stuff), along with the majority of my closest friends. My best friend from when we were 16-20 used to get so pissed off over the game that he would become a different person. He would curse loudly in children-friendly areas, slam his fists on the arcade machine, kick the machine, kick whatever was in sight, all because he had a few less-than-perfect steps on a song he was trying to get a perfect score on.

It came down to two incidents within one weekend that lead me to decide to cut off all contact with him. We had DDR friends visiting from Virginia (we live in Pennsylvania), so we were touring a lot of the different dance machines in the area, and we planned on hitting up Carnegie Melon University in Pittsburgh, as they have a rec room with a dance machine.

We took two cars, just enough space for all of us. When we got there however, for some unknown reason, the machine's volume had been turned off, making the game pretty much unplayable. Kyle was SUPER PISSED, went silent for a while, wouldn't respond to anyone, and took a turn on the machine. Shortly into his set he started getting angrier and stomping excessively on the dance pad (you only need to lightly tap it usually, he was stomping the shit out of it).

Anyways, he walks off mid-set, and just leaves. Without saying a word, with girlfriend tailing him, he just left us all there. Sucks for him, he went home to have a shitty time and we wandered around Pittsburgh having a blast. Turned out one of our Virginia friends had a buddy going to school in Pittsburgh, and was nice enough to provide a second car to get us all home (he drove 25 miles out of his way and spent the night with us, awesome, awesome dude).

The second incident happened the same weekend, this time at a different arcade. I don't want to drag this out forever, but in a nutshell, Kyle had a slight miss-step during the end of a song he had been trying to perfect for a while. He pulled his arm back as far as he could and shattered the fucking screen of the dance machine (not the monitor, the plexiglass over it). It shattered like real glass, created a gigantic mess, and he fled crying with his girlfriend once again right behind him and a bloodied hand. He was 20 or 21 at the time.

I've hardly spoken to him since, and it's been about four years. Since then, almost all of our mutual friends growing up have abandoned him, they just can't stand his negativity and insults any more (even the girlfriend, who was never in our circle before him, but left him and stayed in the circle). We all still know how to play DDR, it's like riding a bike, but none of us take it seriously anymore (I might play a set or two every 3-4 months). Kyle however, I hear just bought two dance machines of his own that he now keeps in his apartment. When a video game gets in the way of your relationships with people, you need to grow up.

Today I tripped and fell on a girl I liked and broke both her legs. What's the worst you've ever hurt someone? by Poopsack99in AskReddit

[–]andre_bass 0 points1 point ago

In 8th grade I was talking to my best friend on AIM. We were really big into everything Nintendo at the time, and had recently been discussing the Mario 128 tech demo.

Well, for whatever reason I devised this evil trick:

"Dude, I was just down at Walmart, they have Mario 128! No joke, it's like a mini game for $5."

And from there I went on to spew bullshit regarding everything about this made up game. Well, friend had his mom drive him twenty minutes to Walmart.

tl;dr Friend walks into Walmart with his hands in his pockets, gets excited, starts to run towards electronics, rips hands out of pockets, pinky gets stuck in hole in pocket, friend breaks pinky, there is no Mario 128.

He had a hard time playing GameCube for a little while.

is it weird that i'm turning a squier jazz bass into my own custom bass? by Girrzimmin Bass

[–]andre_bass 1 point2 points ago

Not weird at all, definitely a good idea. You'll come out of it with a lot more knowledge on the basics of what makes a guitar functional, and there's no greater bond between one and their instrument after they've modded the hell out of it. :)

Something as simple as slapping a new pickguard and a polish job on a used guitar can make it all yours.

[–]andre_bass 6 points7 points ago

Look around for some used Mexican-made fenders. When i bought my first bass, i was lucky enough to find a ten year old P bass in excellent condition for $120 at Guitar Center (just minor wear and dirt).

You'll be a lot happier in the long run with a nicer-built used bass than a cheaper new one.

Could anyone kindly describe the difference between a Fender Blacktop Jazz Bass and a Fender Standard Jazz Bass? by Zearo298in Bass

[–]andre_bass 2 points3 points ago

I just purchased a Blacktop Jazz not too long ago and I'm enjoying it a lot so far! I have had a standard MIM P bass for a couple years, so I don't have much experience with standard jazz basses, though I can say that the backtop jazz is right on par with my P bass as far as quality goes.

I like that I can turn my bridge pickup off and it sounds like a P bass.

I can't tell you how the the blacktop pickups compare to standard P pickups, as I have basslines in my P bass.

If you like the colors of the Blacktop and it's cheaper, I say go for it!

Reminds me of this makeshift piece a friend of mine made out of a ceramic duck. It was hollow inside and didn't have a bottom, so they made one out of plexiglass, sealed it, carved a bowl in the tail and cut a mouthpiece into the beak. it was glorious, and held a ton of weed!!
