I think doctors worry about lows. High sugar will kill you slowly, but lows can kill you quickly. I've stopped eating fruit mostly. Still eat apples and berries though.

I'm going to hell for laughing at this, but thank you for a moment of levity in an otherwise heart wrenching thread.

WHAT in the FUCK

Oh god, this is so disappointing. I was really hoping Paula Deen would embrace her illness and revamp her show to a "how to cook for Type 2" format. Cooking shows for diabetics featuring foods with low GI are sorely needed.

She is really attached to me and my wife. I think it is because we found her so young. by imak3d3dp3plin catpictures

There are a lot of us out there. Maybe you should too?

I take in elderly sick cats who have lingered in shelters for ages / would be put down if taken to a shelter. My last one, Pooh, was sixteen when I got him. He was my friend's dad's cat, and he didn't take very good care of him. When the dad left he left Pooh with my friend and her family, and a short time after that they were all evicted. If they took him to a shelter he was sure to be put down, and I had always liked him, so i took him in expecting he might live another few months.

He was in really bad shape. He was skinny, covered in fleas, had swayback a back shaped like a spoon, and an eye and ear infection. I took him to the vet, got him all cleaned up, gave him good food and lots of love, and he just BLOSSOMED. This cat that had formerly not wanted a lot of attention slept against my chest under the covers every night until he passe away in my arms at age 18. It was the most rewarding animal relationship I ever had.

Because of this I took in another elderly cat, Ollie, who is 12 and has both kidney and thyroid issues. He had lingered in a shelter for months and months and was on the verge of being declared unadoptable. He's hanging out here with me on the couch as I write this. I have three other shelter cats ranging from ages 3 - 7, but I plan on keeping one slot in my home open for older kitties with no chance.

If you can, take in an elderly cat instead of a kitten. They need us so much, and they're amazing companions.

Good thing you caught it! Pretty much the same thing for me. When I was 20 I was peeing constantly and tired all the time. I was initially diagnosed with Type 2 and thought I had it for ten years, until I became a hardcore raw vegan, lost sixty pounds, and still had abysmal blood sugar. Got more tests done, turns out I have Type 1.

I like paleo a HELL of a lot more than raw vegan, let me tell you.

Maybe you can help me understand something better. What did Banner by saying his key to containing the Hulk is that he's always angry?

Wow. How did you find out? Wouldn't it be hard to detect sugar spikes on such a low carve diet?

In my experience, carbs are not discouraged at all, more recommended with meals. Also recommended are a lot of "diabetic" foods, like sweeteners and sugar-free stuff.

Basically they encourage you to eat carbs and calculate the insulin you ned to take with them. More extreme low-card diets are not generally put forward for new diabetics. Also there is a general mood of "we know you'll fail in any real diet change so here's what to do to survive" instead of encouragement to really change. In my experience, anyway, especially when I was first diagnosed. My current endo is a real gem, though.
