I'm a Marine wife, granted me and the hubby weren't together when he decided to join but he's been in for 4 years this October and he gets out next October-5 year contract, he's an airframer. He has yet to deploy. My point being, she really has no need to worry just yet. It could be a long time before he deploys, if he even gets deployed. I'm assuming since he wants to go balls out about it that he may be looking into infantry. Many of my friends and my ex fiance were motarmen and deployed multiple times, it's very hard to deal with but I just kept reminding myself that this is what they signed up for. They chose this and it's a very admirable thing. Yes, she won't get to see him as much as she'd like due to boot camp and if he gets stationed far away from home. Just tell her that she needs to be very proud and supportive because this is a big deal to him and his decision should be respected. Instead of worrying about all the negatives, she needs to think about the benefits that he will get from joining. I can understand her being upset because his life could be at risk but if it wasn't for people like that, willing to step up and fight, we wouldn't have the freedom that we have and take for granted to this day.
