I came up with a sort of unique character building concept for an aRPG style game. Nothing yet made, just sharing this idea in case someone wants to run with it. by Thormicin truegaming

[–]absurdconcept 0 points1 point ago

Well the grid has different nodes that either give you abilities, stat boosts, defense, etc. Each character started in a certain area of the grid, but you could change how you built each of them, or put them in entirely different areas of the grid as the game progressed. Your idea is of a different kind of grid, but it just seems like FFX with a few minor changes. I'm not trying to take anything away from your idea, I just think it's basically been done before, and it would be most easily explained as "It's FFX's sphere grid system EXCEPT (such and such minor difference)."

What is the appeal of menu-based combat in so many JRPGs? by HyperkineticRabbitin truegaming

[–]absurdconcept 0 points1 point ago

Yep, Final Fantasy Tactics would be an SRPG (Strategy RPG), like EmoryM below said.

I guess I still don't really understand what you mean by menu-based combat. I haven't played Xcom nor Civilization... not familiar with their combat systems. In Final Fantasy 1, you choose between Attack, Magic, Item, etc., so I'm assuming that's what you mean?

Personally, I don't feel like I always have to run around and hack/slash everything. It's nice to level up and get stronger and see the results in an active combat system (I love me some DotA), but it's also nice to do the battles by the numbers. I don't mind playing games that let me have plenty of time to think in between each action, whether they're micro or macro kind of actions. To be honest, grinding EXP in an active battle game is no more fun than grinding EXP in a menu-based JRPG. ...not that I really mind either.

Me singing "Put on a Happy face." from Bye ByeBirdie. by SweeneyTodd2012in singing

Sounds fantastic! Vocally, it sounds more like suave cool guy than the quirky perky versions I've heard others sing, so I'd have personally liked to have seen more suave cool guy dance steps rather than ones that cater more towards cheering kids up. I guess what I'm saying is maybe a dramatic choice somewhere in the middle where the kid is finally cheered up, and tries to mimic your suave cool guy actions. I'm thinking like, chin high and strutting kinda stuff.

Also, I wonder how a slower tempo arrangement would sound. Like a rainy day kinda arrangement.

Piracy: What influences your decision to pay for or pirate a game? by gabe2in truegaming

[–]absurdconcept 0 points1 point ago

What I'll get out of the game. If I think the game is going to have some really good value to it (good character development, something artistic that I want to support, etc), then I'll happily buy it. This goes for movies, too. Actually, movies are probably a better measure for me, since you don't have to patch them or anything. I buy movies that I want to support, or if I want to lend them to other people. I bought three copies of the Blu-ray/DVD pack of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World so I could give most of them away to people who haven't seen it (one Blu-ray, one DVD, and one download code per pack). Likewise, I buy games that I want to keep and look at later, thinking "man, this game had something more to offer than most other games."

What do you mean by menu-based combat? Basically that it's turn-based?

No idea... a girl bought "Aqua Lotion" but I don't know anything about it. How safe is it with condoms, etc?

I usually get Astroglide gel: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%A2%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B0%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%89-%E3%82%B8%E3%82%A7%E3%83%AB-4-oz-118ml/dp/B00112SDF0/ref=sr_1_3?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1334551552&sr=1-3

Any color blind gamers around? I'd be interested in whether you run into any troubles in games. by nothisin truegaming

Super Puzzle Fighter 2, the green and yellow. I cranked up the tint on the TV as much as I could, so it was perfect for me! ...but others couldn't tell the difference between those colors anymore. Interesting, huh?

League of Legends gives me problems kinda, but I haven't tried colorblind mode yet.

Awesome, glad to hear! Yeah, lube is your best friend here. You can find Japanese lube in Matsumoto Kiyoshi, but I prefer to order it at amazon.co.jp. HUB's not a bad place, and I'm sure it's fine to go to, but maybe you'll want to take your next date (or whoever) to a more quiet bar if you're trying to get some private time. :) It's up to you, of course -- wherever you feel most comfortable. I do like HUB in general though (just the place as a whole, regardless of the people).

Tagging something wrong on Facebook got me some action. Any other 'accidentally' scored stories? by PlayFreebirdin AskReddit

[–]absurdconcept 0 points1 point ago

About 5-6 cute girls were taking a picture of themselves with a statue at 2 AM. I was waiting around for the morning trains to start up, and asked if they wanted me to take the picture for them. I joked around with them for a minute while doing this, and they said thank you and walked off.

A woman who was watching this immediately walked up to me afterward and started talking to me and flirting hard. Turns out she had a big argument with her husband that night.

It's just a good idea to help people out and offer to take pictures for them (if they're trying to take photos of themselves, by themselves). A little chat during/after wouldn't hurt.

If she's going out with you 1 on 1, then it's probably because she likes you. Also, assume attraction anyway. I'd say... don't worry so much if you can, and just get out there and have a good time. Of course, not being clueless on logistics is important (unless you're good at making spontaneous choices), but I think you'll have a better time if... well, you have fun. :)

Why aren't there any games with choices that actually change the storyline? by Talonisin truegaming

[–]absurdconcept 1 point2 points ago

It'd be a massive game. To some degree, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor accomplishes this, but you're always on a track for the end of the world... so in that way, you still fight the same bosses. The difference is in the endings, as well as the characters that join you, etc. Kind of like Fallout 1 or 2, which have lots of different things that happen, but is always on track to some degree.
