So I recently got my period (I'm a late bloomer) and it was not as expected. 2X, what things about being a woman are not in the manual? by Gggghgghin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Wombok 28 points29 points ago

Urinary tract infections. No one told me about them. Not in sex ed class, not one of my friends, no one. Even my doctor didnt mention that it was probably caused by having sex and then not urinating soon afterwards. My then boyfriend was the one that had to break the news to me about why I got it and why it made him uncomfortable when I talked about it with my family while he was around. I felt very let down by both my doctor and my schools sex ed program. That seems like a pretty basic thing to mention to girls when teaching them about sex.

Stop with the body police, 2x. STOP! What is wrong with you? by sashimi_tacoin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Wombok 33 points34 points ago

That makes me really sad. I'm on the other end of the spectrum (ie fat) and sometimes I stop browsing 2X for a day or two if the judgy comments get wearing. It sucks that so many people of such diverse weights undergo similar treatment. It would be lovely if everyone would stop focusing so much on weight, both the number and the visible element. Its not actually that important. Don't feel bad about your body, if it works and allows you to do the things you want to do, then its a fantastic body!

I JUST ATE A WHOLE PIZZA. by Roommatejin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Wombok 6 points7 points ago

Never feel bad about feeding yourself. Food shame is not okay. All these comments where womens partners and friends are asking them "are you SURE you want to eat that?" or "Are you going to eat ALL of that?" are totally invaliding. You're a grown woman. You can feed yourself. You know what you want to eat and what you should eat and as long as you find a happy balance overall everyone else can shut the fuck up.

Can anyone recommend books where the protagonist/narrator is insane? by MCPhungusin books

[–]Wombok 0 points1 point ago

I totally agree. Truants parts were like some high school writing attached to a real book. The rest was fantastic and truly felt creepy. But everytime one of his notes came up I felt myself taken out of the creepy theme and into some high schoolers sexual exploit journal. And not even a particularly interesting sexual exploit journal.

*although I should add his mothers letters were exceptional. That was a fully formed short story all in itself.

She probably also doesnt give a fuck that she doesnt. But we will never know. There are many kinds of health and not every kind focuses on low body fat.

Women being defined by their position with a man. Yeah, it is a bit frustrating.

Thought about trying a DivaCup? by thetotoromonsterin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Wombok 5 points6 points ago

Yeah, I ordered a lunette online which cost me about $30 shipped. Worth every penny.

Thought about trying a DivaCup? by thetotoromonsterin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Wombok 1 point2 points ago

Develop your pelvic floor muscles and you will be able to push the cup down to the opening of your vaginal canal. Also fearing its gotten lost inside you is the reason that they have stems. So between pushing the cup down with your pelvic floor muscles and the length of the stem, you wont have too much trouble reaching the cup.

[–]Wombok 0 points1 point ago

I agree. How long can we as a society really expect just regular parents to fully financially support their children for? 25 was ridiculous. And I even think 23 is pushing it.

[–]Wombok 0 points1 point ago

Of course thats the ideal situation. But it isnt always possible. And sometimes even with part time work you need help to cover all your costs. Its great that youre getting by without financial assistance though.

They changed it to 23 just recently, just in time for my postgrad work!

Hey Reddit, what are your immediate red flags when getting to know/dating someone? by vanillaaaain AskReddit

[–]Wombok 4 points5 points ago

You're missing the catch! You have to ask to be deemed crazy so you can stop flying missions, but if you ask it means you arent crazy. So the only way to stop flying missions is to ask to be certified as crazy, but only sane people would ask. So anyone who asks isnt crazy and has to keep flying missions. Its a pretty great catch!

Being only eighteen, I am so proud of myself for reading and legitimately understanding this book. by xJDRAGxin books

I think you can probably be proud of yourself for reading and legitimately understanding anything that you value. Your age has very little to do with it.

Dear bookit, I'm doing a study for my class on reader preferences of print media vs. e-readers. Please help me out! by [deleted]in books

[–]Wombok 2 points3 points ago

Completed. I'm from Australia though, where print media is generally quite expensive, so perhaps thats another factor to consider for your study.

Yes. Totally different ending, at the very least.

For those of you with mental imbalances (bipolarity, depression, schizophrenia) who went on medication, what did it feel like? Was it like a veil being lifted, or did things get worse? by mrmintyin AskReddit

[–]Wombok 0 points1 point ago

I heard about the veil lifting idea before I tried any medication for my anxiety and depression, and I think that idea really set me up for disappointment. I'm sure it does feel like that for some people. But I suspect that for a lot of people it is more of a gradual shift in your feelings as the medication evens out.

I have been on and off medication for awhile now, trying different ones, deciding I didnt want to be on anything. But now I have found one that I think is helping me. I find it really hard to tell, because the change is so gradual. Ive gotten some feedback from a few different sources though and when I think about my behaviour of the last few months, I think it is helping.

I guess I would be suprised if your sister really went from manic-depressive to "normal" in a few days. Most medications take months to see the full effects of. She may have some evening out in the first week or so, but in reality the effects are best seen long-term.

I think the real thing to be interested in with medication for mental illnesses is the side effects, as some other commenters have already said, some of the side effects can be really dangerous. Sometimes the side effects really can be worse than the thing they are meant to cure. Thats why its so important to be in regular contact with your doctor when starting any new medication.

I thought two X might like this. by nataliaspeaksin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Wombok 4 points5 points ago

I dont even get why either of those two situations is a big deal. If you accidently sit in toilet water.... you wipe your butt with the toilet paper. Which is conveniently right next to you. If he gets urine on the seat... he can wipe it up.. with the toilet paper which is also conveniently right next to him.

My Personal Anti-Beauty Campaign by HelenAngelin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Wombok 1 point2 points ago

Yeah! Focus on your own happiness. If you feel beautiful, then you ARE beautiful. It doesnt matter what anyone else thinks. If it makes you happy to take no notice of trends and never shave again, then do it! What you think about you is most important. Congrats on overcoming your personal obstacles!

Will the E-Book Kill the Footnote? by BusterCrustacianin books

[–]Wombok 1 point2 points ago

I suppose it depends on the device and the format the ebook is in. I know a bunch of ebooks I have read on my sony ereader have been great for footnotes. You click on the little footnote mark to read it, it takes you to the page and you click on the number beside the relevant footnote to take you back to the page you were reading from. Its brilliant. Maybe the Kindle just sucks for that? Tell them! They may fix it in the next version.
