In the book Yara was Asha and Robin Arryn was Robert Arryn. This is an adaption, not a transcription.

But where is Shagga?

Off feeding his goats, probably. There's no way they could show that in a trailer.

Part of Jennifer Lawrence's Rolling Stone Interview. As always it's hilarious. by darkwingduck14in Hungergames

Yes. That kind of performance requires not only an ability to follow direction, but also a serious awareness of human nature, vulnerability, fear and fury. Not just anyone could do it.

You're using a lot of jargon, here. Not everyone is entirely on board with it.

But Gerion is so obviously the Prince That Was Promised that it would be a huge let-down if he didn't return before the series concludes ;___;

I'd love some context on this, but the one on the left, at least, looks as though he may actually be native.

Racist Hunger Games Fans Are Very Disappointed by Dr_Girlfriend_in Hungergames

Canadian, here: I've been following what Santorum has said about various sexual issues - what has he ever said about race? I'm not claiming that he's never said anything about it one way or another, as I simply have no idea, but this is the first I've heard of it.

Why doesn't the government cut military spending to save public service jobs? by youtubeheadin ottawa

[–]WileECyrus 2 points3 points ago

What sort of salary are you assuming for these workers whose jobs will be saved? How long will those jobs last? The initial cost of buying the planes in question is just that - a one-time initial cost, maintenance notwithstanding. You have to pay these workers the same salary plus various entitled raises year after year after year.

Running the math on the proposed $75-80 million pricetag per plane, it seems that the savings you insist upon would be something like $155,000 per public service worker. Even at the very lowest end, that's what... three or four years' salary? To say nothing of the cost involved in maintaining the infrastructure necessary for the offices in which they'd work.

It might also be worth noting that Canada has already invested some $160 million in the development of the planes. That's money that can't be clawed back even if we reduce our order to zero.

** BOARD DISCUSSION ** - Should we limit r/asoiaf to self posts only? by a-liquid-skyin asoiaf

[–]WileECyrus 2 points3 points ago

I would not prefer it if this subreddit were to be limited to self-posts only. I don't buy the arguments that are floated in defense of this being a good idea when other subreddits do it, and I certainly don't buy it here.

Leave it as it is.

So why should the students not expect free education from state institutions?

Because there's no reason that anyone should ever expect this? Because it's unusual and a privilege rather than an unremarkable norm?

I wonder about this.

A lot of people hold to this hierarchy when it comes to the series (or, even more scathingly, dismiss the third book as being not good at all), but how might that have been different if the trilogy had been one long book? Would it be said of the text that it had a powerful opening, a reasonably good mid-section and a weak conclusion? I don't really think so.

The Fall. The single most visually incredible movie I have ever seen. by iamthenarwhalrusin movies

[–]WileECyrus 1 point2 points ago

Well, consider that making things like Immortals and Mirror, Mirror (and his earlier music videos) is what gives him the money to produce works like The Fall. Tarsem plays the game to get what he wants, and every so often we get something amazing in return.
