They are first and foremost researchers, frankly no one gives a fuck about your "special needs" as a student, and whether they are a "kickass" teacher who wants you to grow into a unique flower. You learn from them because they are at the frontier of knowledge in their field, and frankly they wouldn't be there if they spent all their time teaching. Then they would be a highschool teacher...Grow up

As a graduate student in physics, I had a professor named Herbert Hamber who told us about being a post-doc with you at (I believe) Cal Tech. He said the University tried to claim ownership of the first iteration of Mathematica because it was partially developed while you were a student there.
