Agreed, they are fairly easy to fix. I just did this for a friend and got a new screen from amazon. Only took about 20 minutes and the screen was 85$.

True about the block size, I've just seen some nice benches at 1024. As long as it's aligned it should be fine. I also should have posted sean's guide, thanks for doing so!

The best thing would be to reinstall the os. You can migrate it over using something like todo backup free, but if you do make sure to align the ssd first. Plug it in to a sata port, format it using 1024k, and make it active for when you install the os.
