I loved Y: The Last Man, but, it had some pretty big issues. I love comic books and I think this is one of the better ones, but, it suffers from the same issues as so many "this comic book is better than other comic books." If I recommend this to a family member, the breast mutilation and log cabin rape would really turn them off and make them think less of something I enjoy. To my non-comic reading friends the story is pretty contrived. Of course the only two adult, human males in outer space would die as they climb out of the pod while the woman makes it just fine. Oh, and your mom is president? Oh, and just when you realize you love someone they're shot in the face?. It's cheap story telling. And never revealing the origin of what happened is pretty cheap as well and leaves many readers (myself included) feeling a bit shorted. It, like most things I want to recommend to more people, could use a better editor.

There is a lot of amazing content, but, you need to sift through too much in order to get there. That is why this isn't, and shouldn't be, in classrooms, as the article suggests. Not to say the stuff in classrooms is good...just that if you intend to bring in a new medium then it needs to be damn near perfect.
