Alex Webster Bass Player magazine interview now up online. by mattosaurin Metal

I prefer his work with Sadus compared to Death (it seemed to flow a bit more smoothly) but love both bands unconditionally regardless.

Did you check out the Human re-releases? Fuck me, the bass demos are out of this world-especially when jamming with Sean Reinert, my favourite drummer too.

Aborted-Global Flatline

The production adds to the bilblically enormous tension. So much energy and you get a taste of the added maturity these guys now have. On that note however, they still have a craving to make your skull shatter from insane blast-beats.

Check out Metal Spirit and Metal Storm.

The latter usually highlight orignality in metal so that's a good place to start if you're looking for some of that.

Diablo Swing Orchestra sound pretty awesome.

I'd also recmmend to anyone into Jazzy stuff some Step-In Fluid.

There's about several thousand metal albums released per year; not to mention live gigs, DVDs, festivals, other people interested in said genre and so on.

I'd even go as far as to say make your own band. Tired of nothing new? Work hard and you might even insert some creativity into the genre.

But it's the same eight songs fucking posted over and over again.

Besides, they're a well known band to begin with. I'm confident in saying at least 95 percent of Shredditors know who Wintersun are.

Happy 35th Birthday, Star Wars Episode IV! by samandstuffin movies

The major underlying problem though is large. For two hours we're subjected to the piss poor chemistry between Portman and Anderson which would be okayish...if it wasn't for the fact that his ''deep love'' for her was the reason he betrayed a galaxy's worth of sentient life for.

I know there were other reasons to why he fell from grace-like his prima donna attitude in general-but his ''deep love'' was the catalyst at the very least.

Metal albums coming out this week: (5/25 - 6/01) by Metal_Correctionsin Metal

[–]TrollandDie 9 points10 points ago

To make matters funnier their debut album cover has a unicyclist that looks like the one off of Dream Theatre's latest album.

In fairness though, they're fucking awesome musicians. I'm not even that much of a prog-fanatic but I'd recommend anyone to give'em a listen.

I only briefly glanced at it though; it mainly dealt with gear only instead of learning about their song-writing, band history, technique etc.

Saw this in my local bookstore the other day.

This is a mainstream bass magazine and yet the main article features players of Death, Suffocation (and Decrepit Birth), Cannibal Corpse and even fucking Obscura.

I wish more magazines did death metal specials.

In your opinion, what is the most overrated Metal album of all time? by Genyus93in Metal

[–]TrollandDie 4 points5 points ago

Opeth-Blackwater Park: Good, but about a million lightyears quality-wise away from the praise that fans give it.

I feel that the songs just go on for too long; outstaying their welcome and never escalating much. Usually, they just keep the same structure going in a loop and it never really leaves an impression on me (before someone says I never gave it a chance I've listened to it at least 7/8 times, hoping to see why people go fucking nuts over them). Love the atmosphere some of the songs immerse you in (and I love ''The Drapery Falls'' ) but it overall seems a little too sterile.

I'd probably give it a 7/8 out of 10 but it's not one of prog metal's finest albums and certainly not one of metal's (as a whole) finest.

Alright Reddit! What are some of the biggest movie plot holes that you know of? by DrToonzin AskReddit

Based off of the original novel. The whole idea is a race against time to warn a ship heading to the mainland that there are raptors onboard.

College students of Reddit, do you think the piracy of textbooks is justified? by The_right_droidsin AskReddit

[–]TrollandDie 4 points5 points ago

I'm only in secondary school so far (going to 3rd level next year hopefully) but why does a textbook cost a quarter of a fucking grand?

Is it to make back losses on research work done to publish the paper? Or are they really that keen on stripping peoples' wallets like sand on car paint.

The fact that the guy above your comment says ''I can see spending $150 on a niche textbook'' is alarming to say the least.

I'm glad this guy mentions the one objective positive thing about death metal; the complexity. He gets it anyway.

Even though Canada, with its Quebec tech-death scene, is probably the best place in the world for bands like Ouroboros.

What subreddit have you quit after being a fan for quite awhile? For whatever the reason. by vrakodarin AskReddit

[–]TrollandDie 5 points6 points ago

If they weren't 'too serious' then chances are it would go like any of the other major subreddits: a meme-saturated, circlejerk fest with novelty accounts burying legitimate answers.

It might not be a place for a laugh, but it delivers where it should.

Does anyone listen to Japanese metal? by the_birdie_fingerin Metal

[–]TrollandDie 0 points1 point ago

Pretty good stuff from there.

Galneryus, Versailles, Stormwind and X Japan for good progressive/melodic material.

Desecravity will make your brain implode if you like brutal death. Sigh are pretty well known so I'll just say that, yeah, they're awesome.

This is a bit of a fucking stetch but is number 23 Sarcofago?

8 is driving me fucking mad because I know I've seen the guy on the left before. Again, a stretch but is it Overkill? Looks like them in their ''Years of Decay'' years.

Reminder: This is one of the best metal databases around. Online since 1995 and very comprehensive. by SeekingEnlightenmentin Metal

Metal Spirit is better.

A larger database of bands; more diverse sub-genres and is designed better too.
