Just me or does this building look incredibly ugly? (Rental Apartments near UC) by Sammysnakein Calgary

Especially compared to the ~$800/per month for a one-bedroom suite in UoC's residence.

Rivets and raised features by Muezzain modelmakers

[–]Timmyc62 2 points3 points ago

A tiny drop of cyanoacrylate glue (aka super glue) dispensed from the tip of a needle may form the little bump you need. Alternatively, there are decals with raised resin rivets out there that you can buy for a more accurate and consistent look: http://www.archertransfers.com/AR88022.html

Additionally, the Oliver Hazard Perry class (of which the Nicholas is one) are not equipped with bow thrusters anyway.

I especially like the extra effort put in to write out the Star Wars theme in the second-last panel.

Vancouver rainy day date ideas? by wtfgarbagemanin vancouver

A little Easter egg, speaking as one of the volunteer docents there: keep an eye out for the beaded curtain effect when the rain's dripping down from the roof edges. The tiles are shaped such that all of the roof's rainwater falls through a single point on each of those tiles, resulting in water beads forming at their tips and falling down. Depending on how hard it's raining, the beads may become a constant stream, forming a nice and even curtain of water falling from the roof.

Glad that it helped anyway =D

As a side note, Future is liked not only because it's a cheap clear (and fragrant!) gloss, but also because it's, as far as I know, non-reactive - no matter whether the underlying paints are lacquer, enamel, or acrylic. In that sense, it's the perfect coat for both preparing a smooth surface for decals and as a barrier between the base paints and any weathering substances you may be using that would otherwise react adversely with other layers - this includes the possibly lacquer-based dull/flat coat you may be using to seal everything up. I remember one time when I painted an F-4 Phantom with water-based paints, decaled it, and then sprayed it with Testor's Dullcote without any layer on top of the paint - splotches and webs on the paint instantly!

And of course, since it is a gloss clear, you can use Future as the final coat if you want your model to have a glossy look, such as for civilian automobiles.

For the dogs, they do seem to spay/neuter them - you'll often see them with a tag in their ear to indicate that they've been caught, fixed, and released.

Thanks!

It's a shame that Tamiya no longer takes its 1/700 ship series seriously. The "new" Yorktown carrier kit is merely a mishmash of the old 1970s Hornet and Enterprise kits. The only thing new is a small bridge part, the nameplate, and the airwing. Heck, it still wants you to make the 20mm guns from small wire!

I've always done this as my decal process:

  1. spray/paint a clear GLOSS coat (e.g. Future) on top of your paint
  2. apply decals
  3. use decal set to soften/conform the decals to the surface if the surface has dips and bumps
  4. seal everything up with clear flat/dull coat.

The gloss coat of step 1 is essential (from what I've experienced) for ensuring that silvering (the visibility of the clear decal film) is minimized.

Edit: Read OP's post again and it seems I misunderstood the nature of the problem - my bad!
