TROPHY CASE

I literally just finished Army BCT at Ft. Jackson. Ask me (almost) anything about the process. by TimberlandXanaduin Military

I know I had a lot of questions about how it would be, so I figured others would be in the same boat. Guess I was one of few.

I can teach how to clear feed problems, but that's really all we encountered. Bolt overrides were so rare that the DS asked to see them if it happened so they could practice fixing them.

We learned the cycles of how the weapon operates, but weren't asked what they were.

Cleaning and maintenance is taught, but varies by DS. My PLT had to figure out what works with our weapons and what didn't. Personally, I never lubricated my weapon more than twice the entire time it was in my possesion. It caused more problems than anything: magazines, sand, bad ammo, etc.

You will eventually go to the PX, but it won't be the main PX. It's a little troop store that has only the things you'll need. Some things in there you won't be allowed to have, such as flavored cough drops. Menthol only.

Pack lightly. Don't really bring too much. You'll probably have to throw stuff away anyway. Lots of people lose or gain weight so their clothes don't really fit anymore.

Reception isn't that bad. It's worse than basic, but only because the civilian staff makes it worse.

Best advice: drink water and avoid sick call if you can. Tough out injuries but only if they don't really bother you. Blisters are not a reason to go.

I knew nothing about weapons before, but now I understand the basics of the M16 and M4 operation. It's basic training for non-combat arms so we don't really dig into everything. One of my 11B drill sergeants wanted to explain more, but didn't for that reason.

Oddly enough I hated the M4 because it felt heavier than my M16. That was due to the attachments they added for optics familiarization.

My favorite weapon we were allowed to fire was the M240B.

I was hit during AAA-O by my drill sergeant. It's part of the training. Other than that, nobody is hit unless you're a danger.

Our longest march was around 10 miles with around 40-50 lbs of gear. Mostly our armor and backpack with extra clothing.

Iron sights are used for up to 300m.

During reception we had access to electronics. We were searched once we got to the actual company for basic.

The longest time we had in the field was 4 days 3 nights.

The best PT I had was the climbing drill. 5 x Straight Arm Pull 5 x Heel Hook 5 x Pullup 5 x Leg Tuck 5 x Alternating Grip Pullup

The best training in general was combatives, but our company didn't have enough time to go through for full certifications.

The best training was AAA-O IMO.

The first 3-5 weeks we had maybe 10 minutes a day. This was shower time before lights out at 2100.

My hardest part was PT, but specifically during Red and White phases when we have group punishment.

I was the fat, lazy recruit in my opinion. In my platoon, there was one guy that was chaptered based on inability to do PT and pass his APFTs.

Overall, it varies. There are some that can do 100 pushups in the 2-minute limit, while others can't do 15 to save their life. At the end, most people can do at least the minimum to pass.

According to the scale, 4 lbs. But I also lost a lot of the fat on my body so I look like I've lost more.

Bring it. Saves everyone the painful choice of who is going to let a battle use their phone. Also keeps battles from having to use the pay phones.

Can you define fraternization? I know two females leaving during the same time frame, but I'd hate to get slapped with an article for a few passing words.

Depends on your translation. It could also be Elohim.

Personally I don't like swearing and saying God in the same sentence. I'm just not comfortable with it.
