A message to student Anthropologists (re: ANTH being a less-than-worthy major in the employment field) by [deleted]in Anthropology

[–]TheGardenerIsIn 0 points1 point ago

8 years since I graduated with a B.A. in anthropology and I haven't once been offered a job because of my background in anthropology.

Having a degree at all, though, has been invaluable and necessary and as it turns out anthropology was/is a ridiculously easy major.

Guys. We're travelling to America. We need your help to find the BEST spots. Suggest ANYTHING, we'll do it!! by wnewoin travel

No problem. If you want to see Indians (Native Americans) be sure to take the drive down south to Plimouth. I know a lot of folks come to visit America wanting to see some Indians.

The white mountains in New Hampshire are a must see and a short drive from Boston. The most beautiful and unique states in the union are, in my opinion, Tennessee and Arkansas. The drive from Phoenix to Flagstaff is incredible. Forget DC, really, not very interesting (unless you like to witness extreme class stratifications). But as a foreigner I suppose it is a must see. The urban ruins of Detroit are incredibly interesting. The Pacific Northwest is unbelievably gorgeous. Las Vegas is, in my opinion, only what's worst of America- skip it. New Mexico, if you can make it there, is pretty spectacular. So is Texas, and given its reputation around the world I would highly suggest seeing it. New Orleans is really cool, also, and will give you a view of America that is totally unique. Personally, though, my favorite part of the US is New England. New York State, in all its enormous glory, is also fantastic. Don't miss the Adirondacks. Try and stay out of Florida (unless you like swamps)- its where we keep all our old people.

Looking for a local guide for Florence, Italy. Willing to pay (June 2012). by ndsuleein travel

[–]TheGardenerIsIn 0 points1 point ago

Florence is small enough where you probably wouldn't need a guide. But, if you hang around the train stations you're bound to find someone who is willing to take your money. My suggestion is to go where the local students hang out.

[–]TheGardenerIsIn[S] 1 point2 points ago

Why does there need to be area set aside exclusively for Jewish settlement in the first place?

In S. America indigenous people are driven out of their homes and forced to integrate as second class citizens into states they didn't even know existed. If you don't know about this, I'm not the one to explain it to you.

I have to go for now. Please feel free to continue to say anything else you'd like and I'll do my best to respond when I return.

May peace and love be with you, and may god guide you to an understanding of all peoples.

It seems your stance disregards the historical problems of the Arabs in the area while focusing on the problem of the Jew.

Most extant members of cultures that exhibited barbarism show an enormous amount of remorse.

Out of curiosity, what is your stance on displacement of indigenous people in S. America?

conquering other countries, displacing people, etc. Also, it seems that in every one of those cases you provided the people that were already in those places were not denied citizenship and were actually treated very well by the arabs that "ruled" them; you know, in a 14th century kind of way.

This seems like a popular stance. Do many Israelis justify the actions of their country because other countries did similar things?
