Maynard from the band Tool talks about meditation vs. psychedelics. by UniverseAtLargein Meditation

[–]TheColorsDuke 3 points4 points ago

Very fair criticism of Tool. Most people that don't enjoy them make similar points. In any case, if you haven't, analyze the lyrics.

As for the psychedelic experience/meditation experience, while they are obviously not the same thing, I think it would be slightly careless to disregard the idea that meditation/the psychedelic experience/classical mystical experiences aren't at least in the same realm of experiences.

Actually, after listening back to the interview again, I think I figured out what happened. I think another member of the band says, "we have had drug experiences", and then Maynard corrects him and says, "we've read about people with drug experiences" (I am paraphrasing both these quotes). I think it was a sort-of PR move (i.e. "We don't do drugs, but uh, we know some people who do...). Regardless, they have definitely gone on record saying they have done psychedelics, particularly during the Ænima stage.

You say you aren't a fan of their music, but I think that as a meditator there is definitely something you can get out of them. The album Lateralus is honestly one of the most meditative albums ever written, despite sounding "heavy" at times. I would highly reccommend sitting down and really being patient and listening to the album. Read the lyrics as well. I think it may suprise you.

Also, meditation and psychedelics are often compared. There is a quote to the effect of, "There are two ways to view the top of a mountain: One way is to take a helicopter to the top, the other is to train your whole life studying the mountain and attempting to climb it by your own means. Both offer the same view, but in the event of a storm/catastrophe, one method has fostered more effective ways to handle it."

It wasn't Maynard saying he has never done drugs; it was someone else there during the interview. As far as I know, everyone in Tool has used and is a proponent of psychedelics.

Will this stop them from running for good? Or do I have to do this every time I restart? Also, how I can get iTunes to not start every time I boot? That sum bitch won't piss off.

I don't know which applications are important and which are superfluous, though.

I have literally zero experience with linux. How easy is it to learn? Also, what would be the best way to obtain it?

The strain of weed got it's name from the song, though.

God of War 1 on "God" mode is still one of the most gratifying moments I have ever had; I don't care who thinks that's lame.

Yes, I suppose if you are trying to "measure" the "now", you will only find what is technically "then". But, it is the measurement itself which causes this sort of paradox. From a philosophic standpoint, there is no designation between the now and the "then". How does one divide moments?

It's never then. It's always now.

But the now is always now. The 5 hours ago now is the same now as the current now.

What's the price for a gram of shrooms in your area ? by Rapsobin Drugs

[–]TheColorsDuke 1 point2 points ago*

A couple things:

A. You really shouldn't go picking your own shrooms unless you know what you are doing. Liver failure isn't worth the possibility of tripping balls.

B. Too lazy to convert American dollars to Euros, but around my area 3.5g (an eighth) is usually between $25-$40. The main issue here is who you know. As with most drugs, the closer you are to the "source" and the better friends you are with said source, the cheaper your drugs will be.

C. As others have said, you might want want to start off with a smaller dose (i.e. between 1-2g, 2.5g at most). I know you said you want to "trip balls", but you honestly don't know what that means, being that you haven't done it. While there is the school of thought that one should just jump into the deep end to begin with, and have a full psychedelic experience, I for one believe starting off small and working your way up is the best course of action. Psychedelics are a beautiful thing, and you wouldn't want to be turned off to them because of an overly intense first experience. Some people are very sensitive to psilocybin (I had a friend who would be absolutely floored by 1g of good cubensis). That being said, do what feels right. If you have done a good amount of reading on the subject, and you feel you have a strong, confident mind with no proverbial skeletons in the closet, go for it ;)

Good luck, traveler.

Tool - Eulogy by Travisbickle76in Music

Honestly, it's probably not. The song, like most Tool songs, can be interpreted to be about many people, but is most likely Maynard singing to his own ego. He has gone on record saying this.
