Apparently he's pretty flirty with the contestants. Can you imagine? I'd probably lose control of my tongue.

The school confisgated it out of his locker during locker checks. He tried to keep it on him!

I thought that this incident probably happened because of federal and state laws being interpreted into terrible school policies. This wasn't just one stupid nurse, it's indicitive of a massive problem with the system. Specifically zero-tollerance. So even though it only involved one student, I felt it was related to much larger political issues.

And what if you WERE an addict looking for clean needles? Needles aren't illegal and if an addict can't get clean ones, they're just going to use dirty or share. I guess if a person is an addict then they deserve whatever diseases they get, is the idea.

Yea, you clearly misunderstood me. The nurse is an idiot and should go to jail. I merely meant that a lot of other people at that school should also go to jail. The situation should never have even occured.

That is an understatement.

A 17 year old getting even the slightest hint of being "high" is clearly a lot worse than him dying. Come on.

"You've made a big mistake, buddy. Thought you were tough, huh? Thought you were a big tough guy? Not so tough now without your asthma medicine, are you, you little shit?"

Sorry, that scene got a little carried away in my head.

I felt that this happened because of dreadful school policy, which was probably based on terrible laws/government policies. Something is encouraging these schools to place "Zero-Tolerance" drug policies above the lives of their students. I want to know if this school had a shitty nurse because of budget cuts or lack of over-sight and accountability. I also want to know if the legal system is set up in such a way that these people will get justice, and if the school is being held responsible by anyone.

So basically I thought this story relates to larger political issues and figured that's what people would be talking about.

If either one of my parents walked in on a nurse staring at me while I slowly suffocated to death on the floor, I have very little doubt that I would still be visiting them in jail to this day. My dad's told me plenty of times that if anyone ever really hurts me, he will be too angry not to choke them with his bare hands, and I'm inclined to believe him.

I agree she may very well have lacked a "normal" moral compass. I'd like to believe that no sane person would calmly watch a child suffocate slowly in front of their eyes.

Well, she wasn't harming him per se. Just watching him die. (I know it's the same thing, I'm just being glib.)

Good point.

Good chance she was just grossely incompetant. No reason a school like this should hire a decent nurse if they wouldn't let them do their job anyway.

She was following school proceedure. It's the whole school's fault, not just hers. If she gave the kid his medicine without permission she probably would have been fired for that too. This school clearly doesn't care about its students safety to even the slightest extent.

Someone commented on the article that the school probably would have had to send a staff member with the kid to the hospital, and that's why they didn't want to call 911.

God I hope so.

I really want to call this school and scream at them. Haven't been able to find a proper phone number yet.
