Motivational Quote Time!

I got back into Piano when I was 19 after 6 years of not playing and I have not regretted it yet.

Think pianos generally sound better than keyboards? Want to do a blind test? by cbrin piano

[–]StellarMate 1 point2 points ago

Very true! I did not know the context. If it is just for listening and people dancing, a keyboard is great!

Think pianos generally sound better than keyboards? Want to do a blind test? by cbrin piano

It's not only about how it sounds, but importantly, about how it feels. A keyboard will never give you the range, feeling, and control of a piano

Anyone have any good tips for remembering tones? by scroggalogin ChineseLanguage

[–]StellarMate 1 point2 points ago

I normally keep it simple.

Red = falling tone (4th)

Green = Rising (2nd) like a growing tree

Blue = 1st, like the sky

Yellow = 4th like reflected sun

Black = no tone

[–]StellarMate 2 points3 points ago

All the points mentioned already are true, but if you are still looking to memorize individual tons, colour coding always helped me.

Question about learning by rjcarrin piano

[–]StellarMate 0 points1 point ago

It's a limitation I have and I am okay with that.

I can sight read easy pieces, but once we move into classical pieces or ones that have triplets left, right and center, I need time to study the piece. When I choose to learn a piece, I choose to REALLY learn it and it can take me months to get. Once I get it though, it stays with me and has meaning.

I'm not saying that you cannot improve sight reading, but I am saying that it is a skill to memorize pieces as well

Question about learning by rjcarrin piano

[–]StellarMate 1 point2 points ago

I've been playing 5+ years and cannot sight-read a piece the first time, or the second, or the third.... Everyone is different and has different strengths. I may not be able to sight-read, but will memorize and remember a piece for years while I know others that can sight-read but cannot remember 5 minutes later what they just played.

Bart and Marge's innocence in a Simpsons Christmas episode: "Marge Be Not Proud" by CerealAndOrangeJuicein criticism

[–]StellarMate 0 points1 point ago

The earlier episodes of The Simpsons always stand out to me, not only for their humour and excellent writing, but for the subtle (and somtimes not so subtle) messages conveyed in each episode.

When a show can make me laugh with a scene from Bad Homer (the candy explosion) and make me tearfully sing-along to Lisa's Union strike song, it is a great show ideed
