The entire Landover Baptist site is a joke. The Poe is strong.

What are your favorite "off menu" items that make you keep going back to your regular sushi joint? by ineedbetain sushi

[–]Sparqs 1 point2 points ago

Your first, second, and fourth bullet points are some of my favorites. Additionally, for the aji, it's always appreciated when the bones are taken away after being used to present the sashimi and are then deep-fried.

Years ago, a sushi-chef served me ikura on top of kappa-maki (typical kappa-maki presentation with the pieces set on end and then the ikura spooned onto the exposed rice). Now I order it that way whenever I can.

When I was a consistent regular at one place, I'd often get hon-wasabi even though the restaurant didn't otherwise have it available.

I love yama imo with maguro and a quail egg but I've also found that some folks who don't like the ground yama imo will like julienned yama imo served as nigiri.

If it's not on the menu but you've got a hamachi-kama to spare, a regular with a large appetite will be most appreciative. Or at least, I would be. Plus I like any excuse to have a good ponzu.

A little shiso here and there makes things extra special.

Being presented with a yasai temaki (vegetable hand-roll - no kanpyo for me, please) at the end of the meal is a great way to finish up.

Damn! Now I'm craving some budget-busting sushi.

While some of their donuts aren't all that special, their maple-bacon bar is excellent.

Finally went out and tried some nigiri based on your recommendations a couple weeks ago, was not disappointed! by ltcarter47in sushi

[–]Sparqs 2 points3 points ago

Pick up the whole thing and then turn it upside down to lightly dip it.

I also know folks who use a little bit of the gari (pickled ginger) as a brush to wipe some shoyu on top of the sushi, but I've never seen it mentioned as proper etiquette, so it may not be considered polite.

You have plenty of time to earn enough candy credits in order to trade Emilio's with someone (you can't send one to yourself).

My recommendation is to mine candy gems (bananagates, tourmalimes, kumquartz, etc.) in the mine and then paste them onto lollipop sticks in order to make suckers. The suckers earn 200 credits and the gems are often found early in the mine. Lollipop sticks are easy enough to find or can be bought in the mall for around 500 meat.

All of the online references I've found say that "dammit" is a contraction of "damn it". Do you have a citation to back up your claim?

I had heard that that song was the reason he ended his career, due to a lawsuit from von Braun (not that he had to give up the royalties, but that he didn't want to deal with further litigation) but that's apocryphal, according to this interview in the Sydney Morning Herald.

What I find even more surprising is that his quip on the record That Was the Year that Was about "spending $20 billion sending some clown to the moon" is not satirical but represents his actual feelings about manned space flight.

Two of my favorite vegetarian items don't seem to have been mentioned:

Gobo is pickled burdock root. Plain burdock is white when peeled but once pickled it turns orange and looks like a carrot. Look for gobo-maki at sushi bars that have a good variety as it is not terribly common.

Nasu is Japanese eggplant. I've often had it marinated in a garlicky sauce, grilled, and served nigiri style. Delicious!

Also, you might try asking for yasai temaki, which is a mixed-vegetable handroll. Depending on the restaurant, it might come with any of the following: cucumber, avocado, gobo, kaiware (radish sprouts), yama imo (mountain potato - the stuff that gets ground up into a somewhat slimy paste but is really fun when served julienned), shiso, or kanpyo (pickled gourd that is a bit rubbery - one of the few items I don't like).

The people have spoken. asushiatedpress has been banninated for excessive spamming of the subreddit. Rejoice by buying me a nice piece of nigiri! by shumizzlein sushi

Wait, what people? I don't see a post with complaints.

It's not like the posts were a variety of garbage, it's a series of consistently titled posts. Easy to ignore if you didn't want to read them and it's not as if there are a lot of other posts here being pushed under the radar.

Did you try asking them to limit posts to one per week or some such?

Be sure to check out their shelf in the back with the partially filled bags. Most of their spices are sold in 8oz and 1lb bags (more than most home cooks will need), but the last part of a shipment is bagged up and sold at an even lower price.

Despite various reports about his attitude, that seems like a very reasonable set of positions. He's open to just about anything short of bothering him in the restroom, signing living things, or pictures that include his family.

That makes sense if you're referring to something purely subjective, such as a particular band. It's not so relevant when the thing you don't like effects peoples' lives, such as religions that discourage condom use in areas with a significant population that is HIV+.

How did you effectively scrub the soapy hand if you couldn't rub them together? Seems like a lot of mechanical action would be missing.

The linked article says she claims that. But then it follows up with:
