Thousands of new residents now calling downtown Cincinnati home by bugtrainerin cincinnati

[–]Skyblacker 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I don't think this population surge is being led by families and I think you just discovered the reason for that. Which is a shame. Even if your kid has to be driven to private school, surely it's convenient that s/he can still walk or take public transportation to other things instead of being chauffeured around everywhere like a surburbanite. Cocooning in a McMansion in Mason just isn't healthy.

Have you been to the CD/Game Exchange? Their location near UC, at the corner of Corry and ("Short") Vine streets, has a whole wall of vinyl. There's also a location in Norwood, in the strip mall anchored by Fitworks.

If you were put in charge of trimming Earth's human population down to 3 billion or so, what would your criteria be for who stays and who goes? by Clayburnin AskReddit

[–]Skyblacker 2 points3 points ago

Harsh, but then anything that kills half the population would have to be. I wonder if some of the victims would be volunteers, like the younger spouse of a 65 year-old or the parents of children with nasty genetic diseases. Your plan will go down easier if families can stay together.

I forsee a black market for contacts and/or a rise in incidences of glasses-less people tripping over stuff.

If you are an Anglophile you probably think London looks something like this by KR4T0Sin doctorwho

I visited London a few years ago, but apparently the time to really be there was 5:02 p.m., April 22, 2011. (pic, pic)

Up until now, I too thought that. Well, I thought both -- that cold water boils faster and that it may be purer than hot. Glad to know I was at least half right.

Whereas my husband would NEVER notice something like this.

Did you design everything yourself, or did you simply apply custom decals to regular cabinets? I mean, could everything but that last step be accomplished at the local Home Depot?

Is there a website that tracks what manufactures are doing in terms of reducing package sizes while keeping prices the same? Latest example: I bought Natures Valley Granola bars and they have reduced the package from 8 bars to 6 - a substantial price increase. by z_impalerin AskReddit

Same here. As a member of two-person household, I've noticed that many groceries are packaged with a four-person family in mind. Unless it's served up by hand from the deli counter, we freeze half the meat we buy just because you can only go through so much ground beef.

My friends and I used to have a "South Park" night when it aired. Then a couple of people moved away so the nights stopped. Recently I tried watching "South Park" by myself and realized that I don't really like this show. Such a possibility had never occurred to me before.

The other guy photographed it at a better angle (so that it's clearer what's going on), albeit with much worse lighting and a cell phone camera.

Can we all just brag for a moment? by rastabeanin AskReddit

Thanks! That video speaks to me, albeit more as a novelist than anything. I recently finished a novel but won't start reviewing or editing it for a month, which will hopefully provide the distance necessary for me to see what I actually wrote (as opposed to what I meant to write).

As for reading music, I think my dad has some from his schooldays. Maybe I'll just take something out and ask him to explain it to me.

Please define "it" -- watching youtube videos, practicing an instrument? I'm mainly interested in sight-reading for singing, actually.

Nor can I help how presumptuously (nay, troll-ish?) you wrote those last two replies, presuming that anything you disagree with is an error on my part instead of an oversight or just new information to yours.

If your next reply is similar, I don't believe I'll respond.

No, I can't agree with that. I went through every single menu and maybe even the instruction manual. If it was an option, it would have been there somewhere.

But yeah, agree to disagree, sure.

Yes, it had built-in speakers and a tuner. I know the difference between a computer and television. Though given how some computers now have built-in tuners, I'll agree that difference is getting smaller.

Just because your Westinghouse televisions have zoom 1 doesn't mean all Westinghouse televisions have it. Can't tell you the model of the one I'm thinking of, though, since I dealt with it a few years ago when it belonged to a friend whose father bought it for her because it was cheap. I remember having issues with the aspect ratio, though, and how zoom 1 (I presume that zooms a letterboxed widescreen to fill a screen while preserving proportion?) would have been a nice thing to have.

Westinghouse, LCD and a cheap one at that. It could only display pictures that filled the 16:9 screen or 4:3 with black bars on the side.
