What are your fave home remedies? by MamitaAin Frugal

[–]SiameseGunKiss 0 points1 point ago

Applying mustard onto a burn. Regular French's mustard works wonders for a burn. You have to apply it right away though and let it sit on the burn for at least five minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and the next day you're golden. I got a hot oil burn one night (dropping chicken into the fryer by hand like a dumbass and a small bit of oil splashed onto my finger). I put some mustard onto it and the next day it didn't hurt at all and I did not get a blister. YMMV, but it works wonders for me.

Also, I have found that organic apple cider vinegar (unfiltered) helps a lot with acne/blackheads. It's strong though, so I only use it at night and I usually cut it with a little bit of witch hazel on a cotton round.

Oh man. I just saw them last month and had the exact same feeling. I got into the band like 9-10 years ago when I went to see that shitty movie xXx and they were in the intro. I've been slightly obsessed ever since.

I got to see the show with two of my best friends and it was seriously one of the best nights I've ever had. They put on a hell of a show.

This is why I enjoy Channel 2. No gimmick-y bullshit. CBS Atlanta would have my vote, except it seems like they have some incessant need to prove how "edgy" they are.

I saw them in April and I went with two girlfriends of mine. We didn't get floor tickets because we were afraid of being swallowed in a pit. Turns out, no pit ever started. We were disappointed for maybe 2 minutes and then realized it didn't matter because the show was fantastic either way.

I actually really enjoyed The Global Economy. Do you know who your professor is?

Eh, I don't know if I feel a specific way about having a poli sci degree. I plan to go for my master's..eventually. I graduated in 3 years and had a job the entire time, so I'm burned out on school right now haha. I will say that when I entered college I had a different major and I honestly thought, "Who gets a degree in political science?" However, my mindset changed when I realized that majoring in it would give me the opportunity to study what I was really interested in - countries/cultures besides the U.S. and how they work/interact internally as well as externally. Political Science did exactly that. It teaches you a lot in terms of examining/analyzing issues critically. It sounds cliche, but it teaches you a lot about how to think.

There are a lot of great professors in that department. For instance, one of the professors who teaches Latin American Politics is also the director of the Americas Program at the Carter Center. When I took her class she traveled to South America at least once or twice during the semester doing work for them. I honestly can't think of one bad professor in the poli sci department.

Considering moving to Atlanta from the Northeast. Honestly, how's the climate? by melatonein Atlanta

[–]SiameseGunKiss 1 point2 points ago

I can't fathom the reasoning of some people in this thread. "Oh, I hate living in Atlanta and I can't wait to get the hell out. Better subscribe to /r/atlanta and tell everyone else who lives here how much I detest it." Seriously. Y'all need more things to fill out your day.

To answer your question, OP, the climate is pretty nice. It rarely ever gets (what I would consider) cold. The Spring and Autumn are cool-mild, but the Summer can be oppressively hot, as it tends to be very humid during those months as well. To be honest, though, the climate varies a lot. Last January we had snowstorms that shut everything down for a week (small stuff compared to what happens in the Northeast but we were ill-prepared for it here, as it was sort of a freak occurrence), whereas this year I only had to wear my Winter coat a handful of times.

I've been re-watching the series from start to finish and I just watched that episode a few days ago. The scene was actually sort of uncomfortable to watch, which means the acting was right on target. Props to you and keep up the great work!

This is very true. I work for a small, local business in Atlanta and we get calls from the all the time about doing just this. I was honestly surprised the first time they called because I had always loved Yelp for it's supposed "honesty."

I'm torn between two relationships, I've cheated and lied, and it's time for it to end. by man_I_suckin relationship_advice

[–]SiameseGunKiss 1 point2 points ago

It sounds like there is a textbook case of the "80/20 rule" at play here. In case you are not familiar, "In a healthy relationship, you get about 80 per cent of what you need/want from your partner. They are caring, respectful and share a lot of the same interests as you, but then you meet someone who catches your attention for an unknown reason. It may well be because they fulfill the missing 20 per cent in your relationship – namely the sexual component. " Source.

I'm going to be blunt: You are not mature enough to be in any sort of relationship. It sounds like you enjoy the attention you get from both of these men and you are willing to string both of them along to keep getting that attention. It's selfish, and the fact that you keep lamenting the situation in the form of asking why they haven't left you yet just makes you seem manipulative and cruel, whether you intend to be or not. From your post it seems like you lack respect for both of them and you view the relationships very one-dimensionally - in terms of what you can personally gain from each of them.

You need to end it with both of them and take some time to work on your own issues. I'll jump on the /r/relationship_advice bandwagon and say that therapy is probably not a bad idea.

FWIW, the Commons is only like 2 blocks further from MARTA than the Lofts. Both are technically close to MARTA.

You do have to sign visitors in and out when they come to visit. They get a pass that's good for 24 hours and they will have to show their visitor pass AND be with a current resident to be allowed access to the dorm. So, if your friend wants to leave the dorm and come back, you'll either have to go with them or meet them at the lobby when they return.

Technically there are rules about how often a guest can stay (no longer than 2 consecutive nights and no more than 5 nights out of 14, or something like that) but I have personally never seen it enforced. As long as your room mates don't complain about you having the guest over excessively, you should be okay.

Lastly, the rules are not different between semesters. So the rules that apply for Fall/Spring also apply for summer.

I worked for GSU Housing and lived there for two years, so if you have any other questions I would be glad to answer them.

YES. If that is an option for you on the PSN, I would definitely go with that. It's one of my absolute favorites, and it includes a lot of the "classic" Harvest Moon stuff that makes the games so great. Save the Homeland doesn't really do that as much.

I don't think I would recommend it. I love HM and this is the only game I bought and put down willingly (as opposed to just not having the time to play it).

Whole chicken in my fridge - Should I cook it now or can I wait? by minitoastin AskCulinary

[–]SiameseGunKiss 2 points3 points ago

You don't need a baster to keep the chicken moist - try this method. It's one of my favorites and the chicken is fantastic every time, while the skin stays crispy.

I like to rinse the chicken, pat it dry with paper towels, and then rub it with (a small amount of) olive oil. I sprinkle it with my favorite rub, fit it onto the beer can, and pop it in the oven. Bonus points if you want to throw some lemons/garlic/herbs into the can of beer. You can also use a mason jar and some chicken broth/soda/whatever if you don't have beer.

As far as the thermometer issue goes, as long as the juices are running clear, you're good to go.

Basically, don't be afraid to cook it yourself just because you don't have the equipment that you in all honesty don't really need to make a great chicken.

Harrison grad here. I disliked my high school experience while it was happening (due to the aforementioned self entitled shits), but I was incredibly grateful for all of it when I went to college. I will say that the difference between the quality of education between "on level" classes and honors/AP classes is huge, but that has a lot to do with the "quality" of the students taking those classes, as well.
