TROPHY CASE

I can't believe that anyone would even try to paint this ranch in a favorable light. by bluequailin Equus

[–]Saydrah -2 points-1 points ago

No, they're not. It doesn't take months to put 140 pounds on a horse. I've rescued two that gained more than that in 30 days with nothing but good food, love, dental care, and worming. If they think that takes months, and they've been reported for animal cruelty, I'm sorry, but I'm very skeptical that this is anything but an incredibly sleazy horse dealer who got the idea that they might be able to keep people from giving them a hard time by advertising themselves as a "rescue" of sorts.

I've been in and out of the rescue world since I was ten years old, and this is a type I have seen over and over. Horse dealer wants kudos instead of criticism, so finds a way to portray self as doing a service for horses. They tend to get volunteer labor and the occasional donation, and make a tidy profit by reselling horses either to slaughter or to private owners, whichever is quicker and easier. They are dishonest and likely not treating the horses well.

Please check out this blog post I made on another site about misconceptions regarding slaughter. The cost of humane euthanasia is less than the average cost of maintaining a horse for just one month. It is not unreasonable to expect owners to use a bullet or a needle, rather than the slaughter pipeline, to dispose of unwanted horses.

You look European, and that alarms some people. I'd probably try to befriend you. A less harsh lipstick color and a haircut would make you more approachable, but you look great with the look you have going, so don't change things unless you want to. You might try putting your hair up so it's back from your face, and going with a more pink or nude lipstick and some sparkly eyeshadow for times when you want to go out and come off as more approachable.

My first impression is that you're probably a big reader with very good taste, well-traveled, and you probably have a nicely decorated home.

Law student at a second tier school. Probably not actually going to work in law when you get out. Left your dog at home with the 'rents when you went to school and really miss her. You have a little sister who you tortured but also always looked out for. You secretly don't actually like the brand of beer that everyone knows as your "favorite" anymore, but when they buy it for you, you can't bring yourself to turn it down.

/I'm not very good at these, I always end up making a character instead of actually guessing...

Any good dog breeders in Denver? by rainytuesdaysin Denver

[–]Saydrah 4 points5 points ago

Whoa whoa whoa whoa.

You do not look for the breeder first and then decide what kind of dog you want. Small to medium? That could be 20+ breeds just thinking of the fairly common ones, never mind mutts and intentional mixes. Your lifestyle dictates the breed choice, not aesthetic preferences.

Go to DDFL and ask them to help you get paired up with a dog whose temperament fits your lifestyle. If you're not 100% committed to a particular breed, you shouldn't be going to a breeder.

You're a veteran, but not a combat veteran. Your wife loves catalogs. You have a smaller dog than you'd really like, but you're getting a little old to be cleaning up after big dogs anymore. Your son is in college. You taught him to drive a manual transmission car first. You wear leather shoes. You don't like any of the major political parties.

Redneck Dad Learns One Simple Trick to Punish His Teenage Daughter: Shoot her laptop by Plinkoniumin WTF

[–]Saydrah 0 points1 point ago

All of the comments on both sides of this seem a little silly to me. My first reaction was to cringe at the implied threat of violence, because destruction of property is one of the key warning signs of an abuser (whether a parent or a partner). But, in all likelihood, this is a gun-owning family and the daughter herself can shoot fairly well, as can most 15-year-old daughters in households where gun ownership is a core value.

Then there's the reaction of "What a badass, damn punk kid!" But that's silly, too. The daughter is a teenager and has an attitude, apparently, but we don't know anything else about her from a video her dad made while incredibly pissed off. She may have a lot more on her plate than we know, and she may be under a level of stress that can provoke impulsive, stupid behavior in kids too young to know how to deal with things like anxiety or grief on their own.

Nobody knows this family from one video. We don't know if this is a total badass who is a loving, generous father when his kid isn't cussing him out on Facebook, or a violent, impulsive jackass who is setting a bad example for his daughter. Which is exactly why I don't really agree with his posting the video; there's no way for anyone who sees it to really know him or his daughter, and once he's cooled off, he may regret that anyone who meets him and recognizes him will mock his daughter for her own moment of poor judgment. But, he did what he felt was right to raise his daughter right, and none of us really know anything more about him than that.

I don't know why I typed for so long just to basically say "~shrug~" other than that there was a time in my life where I would have shit-talked my dad on Facebook had there been a Facebook. We're really great friends now. We hang out and play chess. Neither of us is anywhere near perfect, but we eventually decided that we like each other more than we like not speaking to each other.

If you want to talk to an agent who does a lot of MCC sales, I have one. She explained it to me really well. (I had to fight with my loan officer to get it, but that's another story!) For me it was definitely the right choice, because in this market planning to sell in 5 years is insane unless you are an incredibly good DIY house flipper, and even then it's a risk.

[–]Saydrah 1 point2 points ago

They expect that your income will increase. There's no penalty for that. However, if it rises within a certain period and then you sell, you pay a penalty from the sale. You just can't suddenly become rich and decide it's an investment rather than a home.

/not a lawyer or a CPA, just have a MCC mortgage.

I heard about that. That was fucked.

And seriously, maybe it's ironic for me to say this, but if she was faking it with makeup, who the fuck would have been injured by that? Not to say that would be right to do, but IIRC she was not asking for anything but people to voluntarily ask her questions. She wasn't even raising funds for RAAP or anything.

Nah, that wasn't me, I'm a reddit stalk-ee, not a reddit stalker, most of the time. I'm now findable in real life in 30 seconds via my Reddit name, thaaaaanks Reddit. But I had an "I'm HELPING!" moment up there. I didn't even really stalk that much, I just read his comment history. If I wanted to get really stalkery with it there'd be more than that.

OK. I stalked you and found you use r/OkCupid. Obviously the thing to do is post:

EDIT: If any cute girls want to be a substitute date, here's my OKCupid profile, feel free to evaluate me and send me a PM with yours if you want to go.

Stalked you in attempt to find a photo and post it for you knowing that we have many single ladies up in r/Denver, but you seem not to have posted one. However, you are apparently:

  • Into backpacking
  • Casually Buddhist
  • Fond of sloths
  • A dog person
  • Not that interested in Libya
  • A disc golfer
  • At least an occasional drinker and trees-er
  • Formerly from Grand Rapids
  • Moderately misogynist, but you're on Reddit, so moderately misogynist makes you a feminist if graded on a curve
  • Straight-haired
  • Heterosexual
  • In your early to mid twenties
  • A college graduate
  • Quit a mind-numbing job six months ago
  • The son of churchgoing, still married parents

Any takers, gals?

Wrongo. This is Colorado Community Land Trust, which is a state program. FHA is federal. I believe when I was looking to buy, the income cap for a family of two was in the high $70,000s. They don't want to shut out middle income buyers who can afford the mortgage comfortably, just really wealthy people who can already afford a similar home at general market pricing.

If you buy this place and are within that income range you can also probably qualify for a mortgage credit certificate program, which is GREAT for taxes.

Darlin', nobody likes change. That's the human condition. We're born creatures of habit and as long as we're even borderline functional, we resist change even when it's obviously logically change for the better. You're changing. Accept that change hurts, and get busy finding something else to make you special. You know what can make a person special? Reliability, trustworthiness, saying what you do, and doing what you say. I guarantee that if you become the best person you know at all of that, every person who meets you will see you as special, because nine out of ten people go through most days without asking themselves, "Am I being reliable to those around me? Have I done everything I promised? Have I honored the trust others placed in me?"

Expect excellence of yourself in how you relate to others, and you will never again wonder if you are special, because you will not go a day without someone telling you they've never met someone as great as you.

I bet if nobody had ever started the "survivor" thing, this paragraph would have been about how irritated he is with the "victim complex" from women who got dick when they didn't want it. Because murder victims are victims, not a woman who got dick when she doesn't want it.

By the way, he's totally writing off male survivors, so not even MRAs can give him cred for this.

Or are the men allowed to use the word, since they had to survive pussy they didn't want, not the much less murder-ific dick?

Holy Crap! Did anyone just see what happened on 9 news where the dog that they had rescued bit the reporter!? Approx. 7:35am by TK44in Denver

[–]Saydrah 4 points5 points ago

Sounds like a stupid mistake I would make right before yelling "MY FAULT MY FAULT!" as someone pulled the dog off me. And I do know better. I've trained seriously reactive dogs as a hobby for years. The relief of the dog being saved probably made her stupid. I hope she ensures the dog is not PTS for a totally understandable bite.

I'm not in your head; maybe you do love him. I kinda doubt you know what love is yet--nothing against you, I'm not sure I've ever really been in romantic love and I've had multiple, relatively healthy long-term relationships--but maybe you do. On the other hand, he doesn't love you if he treats you like this, and you're definitely codependent. Love ain't enough. You are capable of loving far more people than you are capable of spending the rest of your life monogamously committed to.

Let me know when you get out here. We'll hang out and meet boys. Hell, I have one your age-ish (21) in Denver who is fuckin' ADORABLE that I could so introduce you to.

Always take at least two. If both are negative she's probably fine. If they are both positive or they don't agree, a doctor visit is in order. If she doesn't get her period soon, she should see the doctor anyway to make sure everything is okay in there.

Reddit, I've just ended a long-term relationship and I know something I shouldn't.. Could you help me rationalize? by guiltyorconfusedin relationship_advice

[–]Saydrah 0 points1 point ago

You can ask her if you want, but as much as you think you want to know, if she cheated, you really don't want to know. As of now, you can move on and say "I had a long relationship, we broke up amicably. I suspected her of cheating once, but I don't really think she did." Not a bad backstory, no real trauma. If you find out she cheated but you're never going to have closure because the relationship is already over, so you don't get to end it, then you go from a decent relationship that ended in a fairly friendly way to having had a rocky breakup where you were cheated on.

Even if the only difference is in your head, it'll affect how easy it is for you to get close to others.

My recommendation is that you make up a moderately innocent explanation -- she smacked the guy's ass by accident while reaching for her drink, say -- and decide that's what happened. Then move on, and remember this if you're ever tempted to snoop again. It's the FSM's way of teaching you why you should clear saved passwords after your significant other uses your computer. Lead me not into temptation...
