You do not look for the breeder first and then decide what kind of dog you want. Small to medium? That could be 20+ breeds just thinking of the fairly common ones, never mind mutts and intentional mixes. Your lifestyle dictates the breed choice, not aesthetic preferences. Go to DDFL and ask them to help you get paired up with a dog whose temperament fits your lifestyle. If you're not 100% committed to a particular breed, you shouldn't be going to a breeder.

Saydrah on This could be interesting...

You're a veteran, but not a combat veteran. My first reaction was to cringe at the implied threat of violence, because destruction of property is one of the key warning signs of an abuser (whether a parent or a partner). But, in all likelihood, this is a gun-owning family and the daughter herself can shoot fairly well, as can most 15-year-old daughters in households where gun ownership is a core value. Then there's the reaction of "What a badass, damn punk kid!" But that's silly, too. The daughter is a teenager and has an attitude, apparently, but we don't know anything else about her from a video her dad made while incredibly pissed off. She may have a lot more on her plate than we know, and she may be under a level of stress that can provoke impulsive, stupid behavior in kids too young to know how to deal with things like anxiety or grief on their own. Nobody knows this family from one video. We don't know if this is a total badass who is a loving, generous father when his kid isn't cussing him out on Facebook, or a violent, impulsive jackass who is setting a bad example for his daughter. Which is exactly why I don't really agree with his posting the video; there's no way for anyone who sees it to really know him or his daughter, and once he's cooled off, he may regret that anyone who meets him and recognizes him will mock his daughter for her own moment of poor judgment. But, he did what he felt was right to raise his daughter right, and none of us really know anything more about him than that. I don't know why I typed for so long just to basically say "~shrug~" other than that there was a time in my life where I would have shit-talked my dad on Facebook had there been a Facebook. We're really great friends now. We hang out and play chess. Neither of us is anywhere near perfect, but we eventually decided that we like each other more than we like not speaking to each other.

Saydrah on A Valentine's Day favor could help heal my broken heart, r/denver

I'm terrible at SEO, actually. This is Colorado Community Land Trust, which is a state program. FHA is federal. I believe when I was looking to buy, the income cap for a family of two was in the high $70,000s. They don't want to shut out middle income buyers who can afford the mortgage comfortably, just really wealthy people who can already afford a similar home at general market pricing. If you buy this place and are within that income range you can also probably qualify for a mortgage credit certificate program, which is GREAT for taxes.

Saydrah on i'm not ready to let go of my mental illness.

Darlin', nobody likes change. You're changing. Accept that change hurts, and get busy finding something else to make you special. You know what can make a person special? Reliability, trustworthiness, saying what you do, and doing what you say. I guarantee that if you become the best person you know at all of that, every person who meets you will see you as special, because nine out of ten people go through most days without asking themselves, "Am I being reliable to those around me? Have I done everything I promised? Have I honored the trust others placed in me?" Expect excellence of yourself in how you relate to others, and you will never again wonder if you are special, because you will not go a day without someone telling you they've never met someone as great as you.

Saydrah on Wherein reddit beleives a yahoo answers troll wholesale because it plays to their irrational fears of feminism and false rape accusations "TIL Not rape is rape" [523] "Dont stick your dick in crazy" [190] and many other classics

Ahhhhh Reddit. As of now, you can move on and say "I had a long relationship, we broke up amicably. I suspected her of cheating once, but I don't really think she did." Not a bad backstory, no real trauma. If you find out she cheated but you're never going to have closure because the relationship is already over, so you don't get to end it, then you go from a decent relationship that ended in a fairly friendly way to having had a rocky breakup where you were cheated on. Even if the only difference is in your head, it'll affect how easy it is for you to get close to others. My recommendation is that you make up a moderately innocent explanation -- she smacked the guy's ass by accident while reaching for her drink, say -- and decide that's what happened. Then move on, and remember this if you're ever tempted to snoop again. That's not always something that is known in advance. For instance, a friend of mine has a family member who adopted a child whose biological father was an addict and had never been involved in the child's life (despite frequent invitations) and never paid child support while the child lived with his biological mother. The child was placed in foster care with my friend's family member. After some time, his biological mother agreed to sign for him to be adopted by his foster family, as she understood her own inability to provide care. At this point, the biological father (who had *known* the child was taken into the foster system and had not offered care then) comes out of the woodwork and decides for the first time in the child's life that he wants his paternal rights. The bio-dad was a clearly unfit parent, and was petitioning to take his biological son away from the only safe home he had ever known. The child has emotional disorders (thanks to the abusive bio-mom) which the bio-dad was completely unequipped to handle. So, the foster family decided to fight in court for their adoption. Years and thousands of dollars later, they won, but the judge granted an injunction against changing the child's name, so even though the adoption is now final, the little boy has a different surname than the rest of his family. Sometimes, what should be a straightforward adoption gets really, really thorny and expensive, and at that point dropping it means not following through on a commitment you've made to a human child who now knows you as mom and dad. That's a *terrible* excuse for love! The antithesis of loneliness isn't love, it's companionship, and you *can* get more out of a relationship than just companionship from a selfish wimp who uses tears to get his way and makes you feel ugly. Listen. I've been there. Stayed with my first for about four years more than I should have. But I finally ended it, we were both better off, and we're still friends. Don't wait four or six or twenty years to stand up for yourself and make a change. This guy is taking advantage and not treating you right because he knows you're afraid to be alone. If you're anywhere near Denver, break up with this guy, and we are going out and we will find you a rebound in under twenty minutes. It is *not* hard to find someone new. It's hard to find love, yes, but guess what? You haven't found it yet. What you found is called codependency. You can settle for that, or you can keep looking and find love, in due time.
