TROPHY CASE

The Facebook Fallacy: "Facebook is not only on course to go bust, but will take the rest of the ad-supported Web with it." by storkmbin Foodforthought

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point ago

We are not typical users. The average, non-technically-proficient person doesn't know how to find good content or even distinguish good content from bad. They find the web confusing, they use Internet Explorer, they click Yes when a site asks them if they would like to install a toolbar or make their pc faster. They are the ones clicking ads on blog farms.

Talking Funny: Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Louis C.K. and Ricky Gervais discuss comedy. by AutummManin humor

Interesting dynamics there. Chris Rock hardly says anything, and they all defer to Seinfeld.

Can anyone comment on the benefits and disadvantages of hosting this on multiple continents? Wouldn't the two locations would be too far apart to focus on the same thing at the same time?

Created a reddit account just to post a link to a commercial site... isn't that the definition of spam? Can we see some proof that you're actually a redditor and not just a savvy marketer?

What is Google's position on rooting? by therealginger93in AndroidQuestions

[–]Sarkos -1 points0 points ago

But this effectively becomes Google's position, having agreed to enforce those conditions. The door is now open for the same restrictions to apply to music, books, youtube clips, maybe even apps. From the end user's point of view, it hardly matters whether Google was forced into it or acceded willingly.

Wild Elephants gather inexplicably, mourn death of “Elephant Whisperer” by KiwisAreForeverin news

[–]Sarkos 2 points3 points ago

Reddit, please don't downvote skeptics because you want this story to be true. Look at the facts: All we have to go on is the hearsay of the dead man's son, who has a clear financial incentive to spread this story, since he will make money from sales of his father's books and tourism to his reserve.

While I accept that elephants are capable of feeling grief and mourning, it seems highly unlikely that they somehow "sensed" that a human died from many kilometres away, and that they only decided to express their grief 3 days later.

Question on photo size - why is smaller always sharper? by Praegerin photography

[–]Sarkos 6 points7 points ago

First off, obviously smaller sizes will always look more detailed, because you're cramming the same amount of information into a smaller area.

With regards to your specific problem, there are a number of factors that could be reducing the clarity of your photos.

  1. Mega-zooms like the 18-200 are notorious for being soft. This can be exacerbated by having the lens wide open; try stop down to f8.
  2. f/5.6 also gives a shallow depth of field, which is especially noticeable with macro photography. You might simply be a bit out of focus.
  3. 1/160s may not be fast enough to eliminate motion blur if there is a breeze or you have unsteady hands. Using a tripod may help.
  4. ISO 800 will introduce noise into your images. If you have an entry level DSLR, this can be quite significant. You should generally try to use the lowest ISO possible.
  5. All of the settings I mentioned require more light for more detail, so try to shoot during a brighter part of the day or experiment with flash.

Any advice on Group MMS messaging? by ListenHearin AndroidQuestions

[–]Sarkos 0 points1 point ago

Does it have to be SMS/MMS? Email works pretty well for group conversations and everyone has it. Or you could look at an IM app like Skype.
