Capitalist Contradictions: discussion regarding the most basic problems of Capitalism and how to address them. by kurtgustavwilckensin politics

[–]RunAwayPancake 0 points1 point ago

Capitalism favours monopoly despite its flagwavers clamouring that it is the freest and most equitable system in the world.

If we start with the assumption of a level playing field then by all means capitalism (at that precise moment) is an equitable system of distribution as all players (buyers and sellers) have equal and immediate access. But as the system develops over time, some sellers will gain an advantage. This can be attributed to better salesmanship, access to better resources, a superior marketing strategy or just plain luck.

This competition for buyers will eventually lead some sellers to best their rivals and take more market share. As these sellers grow they invariably try to keep rivals from gaining a foot hold in thier market.

What essenstially happens is that new sellers try to enter a market where there isn't a level playing field anymore. As this situation goes on it becomes virtually impossible for new sellers to even consider opening shop. Smaller sellers MIGHT find a niche but usually they just can't compete.

When this happens the one large seller through years of competition and "free markets" has basically become the only game in town. At this point they can do whatever they want.

Now we have gone from a free market level playing field to monopoly. So at this point what's the difference between a "Communist/Marxist anti-freedom market" and one where you have a monopoly or a cartel controling the market?

The whole Communist vs Capitalist debate boils down to "six of this, half a dozen of that". The end result will always be one group, individual or company excercising control over others.

The root of the issue should not be Capitalism is superior to Communism or vice versa but rather the intention of what the system is trying to accomplish. Capitalism believes that what drives people is money while Communism asserts that equality is the main motivating factor. Both systems, (and I would argue that all systems of resource allocation) are invariably self corrupting because as they mature the people within them who make the choices pursue avenues that provide them with power or status.

Capitalism is essentially nothing more then a phase through which humanity is progressing. It is essentially the todler phase where everything is Me Me Me!!! and is grounded in selfishness. As we grow and the inherant flaws in Capitalism become more visible, pronounced and the inequities more pervasive we will abondon it (probably painfully) for a newer system.

What is your best "making a telemarketer go off script" story? by fermion72in AskReddit

[–]RunAwayPancake -12 points-11 points ago

I once had a telemarketer from some debt financing company call asking me about debt re-concilliation. She asked how much I was in debt and I went full on crocodile tears telling her I owed 6 million and that collectors were going to take my childern if i didnt pay them. She freaked and got her manager and told I him the same story.

I cried and begged him for help and then pretended the debt collectors were comming into my house. I had my buddy start screaming in the backgroud for money I "owed". I started begging for my life and then my buddy fired a cap gun and I pretended to be shot and asked the manager to call the police for me.

I then stopped talking and listened as the manager on the other line was going "Hello? Are you alright?" while he directed his staff to find out my info and see if they could help.

I've argued this exact point so much with so many people. I've always felt that some "Christians" have done this tongue in cheek kinda of thing when it comes to tolerance of other religions.

It's always been this "We're all for religious freedom here in America. Beleive what you want to beleive. Just don't get it in your head that you're equal with us."

This persecution they're biatching about is really more akin to Christianity not being "favoured" or having "special privilidges" over other belief systems.
