I think you're spot on that they are not providing a service we want and they are flat out failing to adjust their distribution models for today's age.

I'd like to add that this doesn't make pirating okay (not that you said it does). There is no moral burden on a business to provide something conveniently.

I'm selling pies, but as payment you have to give me $10 and then wait for my carrier pigeon to bring it to your house (minimum 6 weeks). Surely not convenient. It is still theft to just take a pie anyway.

You should laugh quietly to yourself about how I'll be out of business shortly, but you shouldn't help yourself to my product because you don't like my distribution methods.

/I pirate plenty. I just don't want people kidding themselves thinking that the businesses deserve it because they're not delivering THEIR content in a way I want it. They deserve to lose relevancy and fade away. They don't deserve to have people helping themselves to their products.

To be fair, you just defined it as an issue of liberty. If Able doesn't define it that way as well, then you two will be throwing apples and oranges around all day.

It is funny though how the whole idea of morality stems from the intersection of some intrinsic compass inside each human. Morality is literally defined by humans, yet it often seems like we, as a species, can be devoid of it as a whole. Morality only is because we are.

(That sounds sarcastic, it's not. I was just thinking out loud.)

I know, it's kind of like asking for a moral justification as to why you ate that Twinkie. "Err...well I have a justification, I was hungry"

"Yeah but do you have a moral justification? If not, it must have been wrong to eat that Twinkie."

Not all things lend themselves to a metric of morality. Rahab is asking for that tie-in.

I'm not saying there's not one there, I'm just saying Rahab here is asking for it and no one's given it to him yet.

I don't have a morally sound argument, nor am I an "entitled bullshitter trying to excuse my cheapness" as you put it:

I can get it for free. I am going to do so. No excuses, it's just as simple as those two sentences.

So while I still don't qualify as an answer to your original question, it doesn't necessarily lump me in with your generalized edit. Plenty of us know it's stealing, but simply do it anyway with no excuses.

Hops are dangerous for dogs to eat. Posting because it's news to me. by RufusMcCootin Homebrewing

I was hoping to help out at least one dog owner. I'm certainly not a vet, but I assume it's only about as bad as chocolate. You have chocolate in your house, don't you?

If I had dogs, I'd still grow hops, I'd just be aware.

Exactly how long is a light-year? I can not even remember a year without light. by Best_Keyboardin shittyaskscience

[–]RufusMcCoot 0 points1 point ago

When you asked how long it is you didn't specify if you meant length of time or length of distance, so I will give you both answers.

Light acts as a particle and a wave. It is this duality that gives us two answers to your query. When light is a wave, a light year is 16 Earth days. When light is a particle, a light year is 39 Saturn-radii.
