"You just haven't had enough good experiences"

"You don't know yourself enough"

Just thought I'd add a few more :)

There is still a sizable number of doctors who won't give women an IUD until they've had a pregnancy. It can be hard to get an IUD even when cost isn't a factor.

I have a question. by fishmaster2012in police

[–]RosieLalala 0 points1 point ago

My cousin was like you. He got accepted to police college and realized that it was comprised of the bullies and thugs of his high school and scene. Police college isn't long enough to turn them into upstanding citizens, so they remain bullies and thugs once they get out on the street. Of course, your local college might have different acceptance practices, so I can't speak for your area. I can only tell you why there's a negative perception here. Because we encounter them as bullies hiding behind a badge, here. Personally for every good cop experience I've had, I've had almost a half-dozen bad ones. But, like I said, that might just be a reflection of local practices.

I'm glad that you were able to figure out whta was happening. Losing 25 lbs in a month (let alone less than) is a really huge deal. I'm glad that you're going to a digestive specialist! It sounds pretty serious.

Shame on your seeming friends for lying to you. Not cool. You should tell them that it sabotaged your relationship.

Black Bloc: The Genocide of Occupy by agnosticnixiein Anarchism

[–]RosieLalala 0 points1 point ago

I find that there are two different kinds of people who use black bloc tactics. One are the ones who are doing it with actual grievance in mind (such as when the Mohawk warriors of Tyendinaga shut down the arterial highway or rail line). The other are the kiddies who read some crimethinc and want to go out and be destructive. They may not even have anarchist tendencies in daily life, but rather just have anger that needs to be addressed. To be fair, many of the folks I know this camp have been abused, or have had substance abuse issues, or whatnot. But it would still be nice to see them be involved in our community in a constructive way sometimes, first.

I think that Occupy attracts the second kind more than the first. I know that here, Occupy attracted those who were still trying to work their way through the security cultures of pre-existing agitation-oriented organizations. Given that this was taking them a while (and rightly so) they essentially went out and did their own. Truthfully that makes me fear for the future of Occupy. These kids will be so easy to infiltrate, as they have no idea about what security culture entails. And, as you said, their rage attracts attention. While constructive spaces can live for twenty years or longer.

Why are women more hesitant about having sex or even talking about sex than men? Do they feel vulnerable? by jacobtheworldin AskWomen

[–]RosieLalala 3 points4 points ago

Men are encouraged to brag and to be open. Many to the point of exaggerating or lying about it. Women, on the other hand, are shamed for their sexuality. Girls are taught that they are the guardians of chastity and that if they want to have sex they're sluts who deserve whatever happens to them (including disasters like rape, disease, or unplanned pregnancy). Women not only need to bear the physical consequences of this, but also the societal judgement.

Boys are encouraged to be sexual, while girls are made to be humiliated for developing. Every time a girl's bra was snapped in middle school, she was shamed for being sexually-shaped. Were those boys ever punished? No. They were egged on to go further to first base, second, third.

That's a pretty hard history to overcome.

How do people actually get convicted for protesting? by warpioin Anarchism

[–]RosieLalala 0 points1 point ago

Getting arrested? Or getting convicted? Your title says convicted, but the body doesn't.

People like Mandy get convicted because they're seen as being the ringleaders or facilitators by the state/crown. The state/crown will infiltrate groups years in advance to get into the highest-level organizational meetings. Then, when the seeming ringleaders are arrested right before the march, the crown/state already has a cast against them from the years of planning and organizational meetings.

The people who get arrested at the demonstrations might spend a night or two locked up and then get a summons. Sometimes the summons get dismissed (mine was from Québec because, being bilingual, I was able to say that my uni-lingual summons wasn't in my language of choice :p). The 'little people' protesters don't tend to get charged because doing so would clog the court system too much (here, anyway. I'm not sure how America's court system works as well) but if you are actively caught on camera engaging in black bloc destructive tactics, or throwing an object on fire, or some such action then the chances are much higher that your charges wouldn't be stayed, dropped, or dismissed so readily.
