Are you by any chance Blue_Misfit from Doom9 forum who happens to work in San Francisco? Also, it'd be great if you could explain the difference between temporal and spatial to me. I Have read it in a few places in terms of smoothing filters in Avisynth.

That is just a download manager for updates. It doesn't actually fix anything on the computer. Newer models now include HP Support Assistant that provide the same feature and more.

I want to actually figure out the settings on the Recovery partition to make it work.

I am confused between *Primary boot, Primary, Logical and Extended. I set Win 7 as P and Win 8 as *, still Windows 7 boots up. Disk Management shows Win 8 partition as Unallocated even after I have written that partition in testdisk. Same for RECOVERY and HP_TOOLS.

Right now I have the following to run Win 7:

* SYSTEM (for Win 7)

P Win 7

D Win 8 (SYSTEM missing, but shows up on deeper search. If I stop the search it doesn't give me the option to write this SYSTEM. Waiting on it to finish 91201 cylinders.)

D RECOVERY

D HP_TOOLS - If I change D to anything here, structure equals to bad.

Now, how do I setup dual boot with existing partitions from here?

Hey! Thank you so much, snoobie. I have been able to boot up Windows 7 and have backed up my data. I will now recover Windows 8 partition and work on it to fix the dual boot.

EDIT: Now that Windows 7 is active, no other partitions are visible in diskpart. I tried writing the partition in testdisk, but it doesn't work. Since Win 7 is up and running, would EasyBCD be a better tool to work with now?

But... "If TestDisk is not yet installed, it can be downloaded from TestDisk Download. Extract the files from the archive including the sub-directories."

Do I burn all those files as it is or am I downloading the wrong files?

The very last option in that link seems to be quite promising. I will backup the data fist, but how would I run TestDisk? I don't have access to any GUI on the laptop, so I guess I will put it on my flash drive and run the testdisk.exe and photorec.exe in CMD?

So is there a way to fix the boot records from CMD using the Windows 7 ISO? Or maybe reverse the rebuild?
