If you want! Some families decide to take in just any kid, and if they're troubled and giving them a hard time, they can send them away to a group home where they basically get put in their place. It's like boot camp. I almost got sent to one about a week ago because of accusations of me doing drugs.

That's sweet! I'd love to be fostered by a family with a decent head on their shoulders. Go for it, fostering would be a great experience, and you don't have to take in troubled kids, you can choose the kids you take in!

I'm not really sure, I know you can find out how to do it in your area, but basically you have to register to be a parent and take classes, you can also choose who you decide to take, if you think a kid is too messed up you can choose to send them on their way. Most of my peers are troubled, drug doing, violent, so on, but there are decent kids that won't give you trouble.

All I would say to you is when you get a child, love them like they're your own, and be patient with them, I can't stress the patience enough, some foster parents can't understand that each kid comes from a different situation, a different set of rules, when you lay down rules and a kid accidentally messes up or breaks them, they've been living in a home that probably engraved in their heads that they have to live by a certain lifestyle, or they feel like they must eat or be eaten in the real world, just show them compassion, because you're basically retraining them, so treat them like you would treat a small child, because that's basically what they are. Probably that doesn't happen very often, it's not very hard to send a child away and retire, plus it's good money, which is what most people only care about. I've never had to switch homes, when I was at CPS headquarters I was very assertive, which is what it takes with those people, I demanded a home in my county so I could stay at school where I'm comfortable, and I go to one of the best schools in Michigan. I go to my best friend and my boyfriend, who is a redditor for support, however I was told that I'm not allowed to see either of them for a reason DHS won't tell me, so now I have to sneak around to see either of them, which I'm not comfortable doing. I heard CPS tries to keep you from keeping contact with Anyone you knew before placement, which is absolutely absurd.

Well the reason why I'm not just going straight to CMU is because my high school grades are terrible, my gpa is 0.6 because of everything that happened and it effected my schooling. Would that be a possible problem, that I enter with an associates?

Im a 16 year old girl, when I turn 17 in September I'm going to file for independent living so I can get out of this home, file for social security, and finish high school online. Then I'm planning on starting at mott community college and getting my associates in photography then transfering to Central Michigan university to get my master's. The state offers many benefits to Foster children, for instance, every semester I attend college, I get $5000 cash to help pay for tuition.

The system basically is for the parents convenience and money. Kids will be placed in a random home with no foster worker and told to just adjust, they won't attempt to work with the parents, there is no review of a Foster parents home, and I have been indirectly told by my Foster mother that I am only living here because she's being paid. Adopting isn't quite what you think it is, foster homes aren't like a child walmart, which is how I viewed it for a long time. There has to be a special exception for a child to be adopted, usually by family, people don't just decide to adopt and come in here and pick kids out, that's a completely different system. The kids I am living with are 3 black boys, one of them is quiet and doesn't say a word, ever, I don't know a thing about him and I've lived with him for months, one of the boys is a cocky son of a bitch, he is cruel, and doesn't like the idea of me being on his turf, so he's constantly telling my foster mom that I'm sneaking out or doing drugs to try to get me kicked out. There's a former member of the household that I've mentioned that tried to get me to have sex with him within 5 minutes of meeting him, and I was terrified I was going to be raped. Another boy that has recently been sent to juvy for a reason I don't know used to rob the rite aid next to my foster home, he would do drugs right in the house and try to have sex with everything. Apparently every animal in this house at some point in it's lifetime has been sexually abused by a foster child. The stereotypes that go with it is the most corrupted kids are the black ones, the white kids usually keep to themselves, and the black kids usually want to stand out. Not always, my black foster brother keeps to himself, but it is usually the case.

I agree, I would much rather be home getting beat rather than be here, just a focus of money and a punching bag. I'm sorry that happened to you, it's not right what happened to you in these foster homes. I've also tried killing myself in this home, because of the emotional strain and need to want to leave, but all I got out of it was a concussion that was never even treated. I also used to be sexually active, but not with anyone other than my boyfriend, I don't just have sex with anyone who wants to have sex in this home. I'm living in a room that is flooded with sewage, I'm not allowed to leave the room most of the time, but then I'm punished for staying in there all day, I'm suffering pain in my lungs because there is black mold growing in my room, and there are giant black widows crawling everywhere, it's very scary.

I'm a 16 year old girl, the staff are very nice at first, but when it comes to money or very serious situations, they will turn on you in a heartbeat, they're deceptive people, I usually see kids who are very troubled, they'll try to rob stores near my foster home, pick up hookers, do drugs right in the house, it's bad. The most interesting thing.. once I was hanging out with one of my friends (I had convinced my foster family to allow one of my friends to come over) and we were sitting in my room, and one of my foster mom's daughters came downstairs (she's probably 50) and she just started screaming my name, I walked out my door and she started accusing me of doing drugs and all sorts of terrible things, I tried telling her I wasn't, and I would take a drug test, and she screamed at me even more telling me not to lie to her, she told me I had 2 weeks to find another place to live, because I was being re-placed, I eventually wound up taking a drug test and staying here, but it was a very scary experience thinking I would have to leave. It's probably not one of my more interesting, but off of the top of my head, this happened a week ago, so it's the most memorable.

Also, about a month ago one of my foster brother's brothers came over to visit his brother, and he's a verrry troubled child, he's currently living in a group home with other troubled children, and he tried making me have sex with him, so the whole night I was sitting in my room with my door locked and a kitchen knife next to my bed because I was so terrified he was going to rape me.

Most of the kids here are okay people, but they're very, very mean, they will do anything to make you feel terrible and get you in trouble and make you move out, it's like survival of the fittest, and no one fights fair.

This is surprisingly true, there are many kids who are taken for stupid reasons, and one of my foster brothers has been molested by 3 of his past families, including his own blood family, CPS is very, very corrupt.

Thank you very much, I wish CPS would do their jobs a little better than they are now, the system is very corrupted.

Physically, for the most part, excluding when certain kids come here for emergency placement and visitation and are the kinds of kids where you feel like you have to lock your door to not be molested, emotionally, this is a terrible situation to be in, child protective services is only something to do as a last resort, if your parents are going to kill you. I was one of the lucky ones and was placed in a actual home, but I was almost sent to a group home, which is basically a place where kids who have been troubled their whole lives are put, they are angry, uncontrollable, and not a pleasant place to be.

My mother has been abusing me my whole life, doing things such as beating me with shower poles, choking me, and submitting me to her abuse when she needed someone to take out her anger on. I was also molested when I was twelve and no kind of report was made. I contacted child protective services and was removed from my home recently, and now I am in a foster home in my county.
