Why don't we call ourselves "non religious" instead of "Atheist", as the latter has many negative connotations brought about by ignorance and propaganda. by RAGEdemonin atheism

Perhaps you are correct. I have never realised the similarity between the word "Liberty" and the word "Liberal". How someone can undermine such a beautiful word is beyond me.

We, in the UK, rarely use the latter, as it is always implied rather than stated in the way our governments work.

Upvoted, as well as all other well thought arguments against my topic.

Not as much as "Liberal". More importantly, it makes it more difficult to do so, as it contains the word "Progress".

I appreciate what you are saying but how would you be taking the word back if the 10 people you talked to immediately dismissed you because they were convinced that atheists are baby eaters?

You would likely be making the battle twice as difficult as it should be. Firstly, you would have to attempt to repair the damage, and secondly, you would have to build on their logical thought processes to convince them of our viewpoint on religion.

If we refrain from using the word "Atheist" in outer circles, one would only have to attempt to do the latter.

Please excuse my use of a certain word in the latter part of this sentence, but we would be using the lesser of 2 "evils".

Yes, it is true that "non-religious" doesn't mean exactly what "Atheist" means. You would have to admit, however, that it is far closer to the true meaning of the word than what people Perceive to be the meaning of the word. I believe that this is an important difference.

We are not only trying to engage their logical circuits. Perhaps more importantly, we should be trying to preempt their ignorance.

I've never understood this silly causality dilemma. Obviously the egg came first. Eggs were laid by whatever evolved into the chicken. At some point, the pre-chicken species laid an egg, as they would normally have done for millions of years, and a modern day chicken hatched.

Homeworld 3? by DisRuptive1in gaming

I was 3D gaming in the 90 with ELSA Revelator 3D glasses and their driver. It has a special function called "Dyna-Z". Basically, it dynamically changed the convergence of the whole scene depending on what was currently being drawn on the screen.

Modern 3D drivers don't have this function (3D vision, iZ3D, DDD etc).

So, when you, say, zoom in on the fleet, you adjust the convergence so that the ships are just touching the screen. But now when you zoom out even a little, which you have to do during gameplay of course, the ships dissapear deep into the screen and the 3D "WOW" factor is gone.

With "Dyna-Z", the ships would always be touching the screen.

I am told that this is no longer possible because of hardware transform and lighting/post processing which is all done at screen depth, so the cards can't figure out at which point the scene begins and ends.

I have played Homeworld 1 and Cataclysm on full 3D. They are, still to this day, my most favourite games of all time. And that is, in large part, due to 3D.

I'm an a advocate of 3D. Homeworld 1 with the old ELSA Revelator driver was an epic experience. Too bad no driver since has come close to what the Dyna-Z function did...

I needed to vent after reading tonight's post secrets. Not sure what posting this will accomplish but it made the rage a little less ragey.

I have seldom been more infuriated by a "secret". Hopefully some of his/her "friends" will see this.

EDIT: Some confusion here. I didn't make this. I found it on Post Secret and was disgusted, so I posted it on reddit.

Lord of the Rings movies.

I love RPGs and all, especially the ones set in the D&D universe. After playing them my whole life, these movies come off as corny, unoriginal circlejerk.
