Ahhh, an incongruent affect. Not the mental illness kind, just the kind where what's outside looks different than what's going on inside.

I had something similar but totally different going on for a while. My face situation was that when I was talking to clients and they said really stupid things, my face would look like someone had just said something really stupid to me.

It's taken years of work to overcome, but now I can make my face look like everything is totally fine when in fact, it's fucking batburgers crazy.

I was chair force and have had waaaaaay more range time as a civvy than I did when I was enlisted. That's when Bill was in charge anyways, it's a lifetime away. I'm sure you could give me lots of tips, always going a little bit down and left of target.

Anyways, ribs, porkchops, taters, red ryder bbguns, booze, shit like that. Oh and I'm born and raised here but lived in Texas for a while and love the south. One of my best friends from high school went to Georgia Tech and never left the area. He's something of a Hunter S. Thompson type. When I asked him why he stayed it was something like this:

I have a house on an acre and a half. I'm in my backyard setting up spray paint cans in front of a 8x6' canvas and shooting them with my 12 gauge shotgun. I notice my neighbor in his yard and he's not even looking over. I ask him if he ever wonders what I'm doing shooting my shotgun in my lawn. His response: "That's your property, you keep doing what you want to on it and its none of my business".

Love that shit. I'm pretty sure they became best friends and made a fort after that.

Make sure that since you live in mass that instead of "Class A" you apply for a license "for all lawful purposes". More options = better. It also will allow you to carry concealed anywhere in the state, and in many others. It just gives you options.

I hadn't heard anything about the range being shut down, and the website is still advertising it as thought it were functional.

Even if it is closed though its just a quick trip up to NH and there are tons of places you can go, rent a gun, take a class, etc. I even found one that had exotics you can rent. M60, Uzi, etc.

Only as in it's the only one that I have. It's a beautiful piece of engineering though. Have you had a chance to get out to the S&W Armory in Springfield? For just a few bucks you can rent anything they make and try it out at the range.

One of these days I'm getting a compact .40 M&P but it's going to have to wait. Chest panel and half sleeve is first. Happy birthday to me.

I think it's less about convincing as it is encouraging. Don't talk to him so much about his grades, but about his goals. If he doesn't have them, help him to dream, imagine who he would like to be later, and help him to believe that its something he can do, not just a pipe dream.

Its a tough one because he might not have any idea, but if you guys can just riff, and you can find out something he has some passion about then that's where you start.

In my experience:

Get better grades so you can have a good life = doesn't work.

If you want to do x, you will probably need y. That can happen, but z needs to happen before you get y. How can I help? We can totally do this. = works a little better.
