What hard truth does Reddit need to hear? by TheJungleVIPin AskReddit

I don't think you're an attorney. Good point though.

So I just found out one of my favorite Sci-Fi authors is a homophobic bigot. Reddit, what are some of your heroes that ended up being a disappointment? by ApocalypseWoodsmanin AskReddit

I'm highlighting the satirical aspect of Scientology - maybe my phrasing was too broad. All your points are valid, but you're attacking a point I wasn't trying to make. Scientology is brilliant in the sense that L. Ron Hubbard wrote these seemingly unbelievable stories, but because they provide answers to certain existential questions (afterlife, the spirit, etc.) some people buy into it and consider the books, and the beliefs within them, to be the absolute truth. All he did was what all earlier religions had done. You're right when you say Scientology is terrible, but that doesn't make it any less brilliant in it's satire on organized religion. Scientology promises everything, and gives nothing in return except for a book written by some guy trying to get rich.

Am I the only one who sees Scientology for the brilliant idea it is? It's a perfect satire of every religion ever, and to make it even better you get all these devout religious (and non-religious, but that's really beside the point) people exclaiming how absurd and stupid it is that someone would live their lives by that nonsense, when they do the exact same thing. The only difference is their religion has been around much longer and is socially acceptable to follow, in spite of the fact that it is the same exact thing with slightly different characters. And L. Ron Hubbard, the genius that he is, gets to sit and rake in all the money from the people who believe his story. Personally, I think Tom Cruise, Beck, and other celebrities who "believe" in Scientology do so because they're in on the cut. They're just doing a commercial for the validity of Scientology.

TSM Gaming House Fanfic by bubbaholyin leagueoflegends

[–]ProBrown 2 points3 points ago

This was hilarious. To be honest, all this "Baylife!!!" bullshit turned TSM from a team I semi-respected into an obnoxious group of douchebags. It was sad to see Chaox's transition on his stream. He used to be one I could watch regularly for his solid AD carry play, but over time I couldn't even watch because of his obnoxious attitude. Honestly, I was glad to see them get knocked out in group play.

I respectfully disagree. Reverse cowgirl is an amazing position both to watch and enjoy firsthand.

An apology / AMA / Feedback - Dyrus by Dyrusin leagueoflegends

[–]ProBrown 0 points1 point ago

This isn't an apology. These are excuses. If you don't want people to dislike you for raging, then stop raging. It's that simple. We don't care what your reasons are for raging, we only care that you stop. If you stop, people will notice, and they will watch your stream to learn from your excellent gameplay.

So here's the thing about saying "gg" by ProBrownin leagueoflegends

[–]ProBrown[S] 0 points1 point ago

Think of red cards. People get thrown out of soccer games, and it impacts the team as much as a leaver or a troll. Regardless, the teams will shake hands and move on.

Same goes for me. No matter how pissed off I was during the game I always made a point to shake the other team's hands after. I never understood the people who would just walk off. As an old coach used to say "leave all your negative feelings on the pitch." Shaking hands with the other team was a good way to realize that it was just a game, and really didn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. Even after a bad loss in LoL, saying gg enables me to get over it and move on.

No, sportsmanship is not complimenting specific plays or players. Sportsmanship is the ability to recognize that it is, after all, just a game, and being able to leave behind any sort of negative feelings because after the game is over they hold no meaning. Saying "gg" (or any other variation) is simply leaving the game on a good note regardless of the outcome.

But that's just it, isn't it? Saying this is a fruitless attempt IS a defeatist attitude. Also, the branching of topics generally tends to happen in a discussion, and you took my use of proactive out of context. It was in regard to actively calling out ragers, not my original post. I see your logic when you say that not everyone will adopt saying "gg" simply because it's a show of sportsmanship, but I don't think that makes my attempt pointless, or silly. At any rate, I've enjoyed our discussion and you've made my time at work fly by, so thanks for that :D

In these sort of situations I usually will say something like "gg, sorry about leaver, d/c, etc..." In this way the sportsmanship is maintained while acknowledging the other team was handicapped by something outside their control.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think it is a problem without a solution. In every game I play I try to maintain a positive attitude and respect every player, regardless of how they are playing. However, if someone begins to rage, I will speak up in defense of the person they are raging at. I believe this is an important step to take because being respectful but then failing to stand up for others accomplishes nothing and allows the problem to persist. Of course, sometimes calling the rager out exacerbates the problem, but the amount of times that it gets them to shut up is surprising. If a change is to be seen then we must be proactive, rather than adopting a defeatist attitude.

One time I made a rebuttal shot in beer pong behind my back. We ended up losing the game, but that was one of my greatest beer pong moments.
